CNC Files

CNC Files

hi,

in steel we have different formats for exhange to CNC machines like DXF NC and much more.

For wood production we need another format and that is BTL.

Is it perhaps possibel to build that in Advance steel?

for info about BTL:

http://design2machine.com/btl/

thanks for considering

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea @Anonymous and to everyone else for contributing your thoughts and votes. Due to the low strategic fit, we have decided that we will not be pursuing this one at the given moment. The tools in Advance Steel are dedicated for steel fabrication rather than timber, where we see other partner solutions delivering a better fit.

hi,

thanks for the feedback, i accept it but i do think Autodesk is losing the battle if they dont invest in things like woodprocessing, Advance steel is not only a program for steel, i do draw large wood constructions in AS.

The only thing missing in AS for wood are macro's for specific connections and the BTL processing.

for example Tekla does provide these options, and also a built in macro generator where you can built your own interactive macro's.

It is needed in the market to have one program with multiple purpose like steel.wood/concrete.

Also the exchange off files in the BIM process is important.

Hi,

thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts here. I do understand your concerns and agree that one multi-material BIM software is the right tool for buildings and especially structural detailing. We at Autodesk put huge effort in this area and you saw and will see our investments in this area soon for concrete and steel. For wood/timber we know a great partner like HSB delivering a solution. This allows the timber modelling and detailing including correct reports and CNC files from our BIM-platform Revit.

Beside the custom connection functionality in Advance Steel also the API could be used to extend and create own automatic connections and also custom CNC files.

good morning,

i do hope Autodesk is speeding up the investments in their software and ofcourse Advance Steel.

I know that there is HSB for timber, problem with the timber / steel software is that the steel software isn't developted for timber and vice versa with timber software.

in the present times it is common (in Holland) that all drawings in a project are made in one hand so we need software that can handle steel and timber and sometimes concrete (its not that important).

I am aware off the API function, don't have the knowledge to make my own connections.

Chistian Blei (CBT Tools) is now doing some software development for me, its working great and fast, i ask and he writes code.

I have already some tools from him working in advance.

Hi,

https://www.ansvarcad.com/en/ is an AutoCAD add-on module for timber element design. But the application also allows the generation of machine files for CNC machines (BTL, BVN Hundegger). Both Mass Element and 3DSolid object selection are supported. Works on AutoCAD Architecture, as well partly without Architecture toolset.

Hi,
With AnsvarCAD add-on https://www.ansvarcad.com/en/ it is also possible to export AdvanceSteel AstTimberBeam, AstBeam and AstPlate objects to BVN (BVX software also opens BVN) and BTL. Add-on works on AutoCAD (with Architecture toolset), but it is possible to open AdvanceSteel DWG directly in AutoCAD and make export.
