Most shading and rendering artists create numerous versions of a material. Very often, we need to store a material in the scene so it's not lost, either to have a backup version or to have different material versions because different versions need to be rendered out.   Currently, keeping different material versions in the scene is cumbersome and forces us to come up with creative workarounds - carry hidden object with the scene that carry these materials, or create Multi/Sub-Object materials with different material versions nested in it and making sure it's kept in the material editor or assigned to a hidden object etc.   In short, there's no easy dedicated way to store multiple material versions in a scene.   This is easy to solve and can be probably done with very little effort while supporting all renderers. The idea is to have a new material type - let's call it the Depot Material - which can hold materials in a list like, for example, the Multi/Sub-Object Material. When you click select by name and start typing in filter area, object list doesn't focus on selected objects, you see an empty space thinking "Guess I typed wrong" then you realise the scroll bar is in bottom, so you have to manually scroll to top if you have lots of objects in scene.   I gets annoying after a time, it used to focus on selected objects prior to 3ds max 2014.     Im not having too much trouble with the Bright red and other geometry default colors. But the color choice is a leftover thing of Max when the old UI also made use of bright red icons. It would be more consistent and add a subtle touch of style and give Max more personality to have its typical colors like that Turquoise, Yellow Orange, Light Gray already used across its UI to be used more to display geometry (like sub-object selection). The Object selection outline is already Teal color so this will also add to the coloring consistency. Also, if you look at some tooltips, they already start to make use of this teal color.                There are still old icons using that red color waiting to be updated. Right now, the MAXScript splineShape methods only accept a node which means that as soon as there's a modifier applied, you can't use them. You can't use them with the simpleSpline scripted primitives either where they'd be a natural fit if they'd accept the bezierShape parameter. Edge weight of 0 should not chamfer when in chamfer by weight mode. Currently it makes a chamfer at 0 scale which ads vertices that cause problems with the mesh. Radius bias would also work better if extra verts were not created. Also in editable poly the default weight of edges should be 0. Alternatively, an option to set new edges to a certain weight would also work. This way you don’t constantly have to set new edges to 0. The idea is that edges are not chamfered unless there are specifically told to do so.   This system makes for a nice nondestructive chamfer workflow. Show More

This is ridiculous, 3ds Max when exporting gbl does not support the hierarchy of objects, does not support mipmap (textures flicker), incorrectly displays transparency (alpha channel), renames texture maps in the gbl file. See how wonderful Babylon exporter plugin does it. Even the free blender does it all perfectly! And you can't choose a color by colormap - gbl does not support it! The funniest thing is, 3ds max does not know how to import .glb format, while the free blender can do it. Bravo Autodesk!     Show More

I'd like to have a new xView for UV Seams. It should have the ability to set which map channel is being used. Functionally this would be like the seam display when using an Unwrap UVW modifier but not needing to add modifiers to objects. Show More

Hello, Like Character Animator I try to use the most I can the "expert Mode" to hava all the screen for my work. For that I´ve centralize all the tools I need in the RMB which is for animation by default. But I couln´t ever put the "setection set" and "selection filter" in this menu because the "customize User Interface" doesn´t allow me. I think it would be very cool to have an interface where have the least as possible in the screen and I have achieved it using Quad Menu, for that I think it's important to improve this kind of things. There are several tools like the ones I´ve mentioned that aren´t possible to cusomize in the cuad menu.   Thank you very much! Show More

Don't you think it would be a good idea to replace the Viewport layout panel with tabs with user-defined views. If you remember, this is already implemented in the material editor. Why not use the same approach here. You can go even further, and pin on tabs not only views but also editors, such as the Graph editor.             Show More
