Hi,   Much like signing in on an Xbox or Playstation gaming profile, it would be great if your Autodesk profile followed you around from workstation to workstation. In the case of 3DS Max these would be GUI changes, Shortcut keys and other product tweaks.  So if you were in an office hot-desking situation, by simply signing in, the product would be set up how you like it to run, and when you log out it would be ready for the next person to sign in and use as they wanted it to be set up. This could be gradually expanded upon to perhaps one day include other things like plug-in licences, options for project paths and recently used cloud saved file locations. It would only take up a minimal amount of space in cloud storage (Autodesk Vault, Autodesk Docs or BIM 360), and in the case of a user being offline it might be handy to be able to carry around a USB device that contains the above information. A handy wizard dialogue box would pop up and guide you through the process of profile migration, and locations to look for it. This would enable a lot of users of older, perhaps out of support period, Autodesk titles to upgrade to newer versions and perhaps take away some of the pain of migration. Also working from home a few days a week, then office based, or on a users own workstation wouldn't be such a chore. Being a person who works with 3DSMax and other Autodesk titles on numberous workstations and location per week, I feel this is something important to look into. It's an additional import option, Import multiple files. Native to Max and Maya, gets rid of the need for third party scripts. I want to be able to select multiple objects into the scene instead of one at a time. It will really help when I need to import 50+ objects at the start of a project. Show More

It's very frustrating as a TD not to be able to query what is in a .max file from outside it other than a list of objects and materials.   It's essential for us to be able to read the list of layers and which objects are on each layer, so we can build our own Merge by Layer utility and make other useful utilities.      Show More

It would be good if max recognised and advised if the command is a large function or action. so as to avoid accidently performing an action that will make max get stuck or take a long time to calculate..  Ie if your copying over modifiers to a large number of objects but haven't realised their instances and therefore can create a massive loop or trip max in to getting stuck therefore it warns about if you want to proceed before performing the function. Otherwise a better alternative would be adding the ability to press escape on any function or command and it stops the function. so if you realise you have made a mistake you can cancel out of it rather that waiting an hour for max to come back or crash.....   Thanks Show More

Long time 3ds user 10+ years, was just playing with the new Cinema 4D 2023 in built in pyro simulation system that is practically realtime. Will we ever get this in 3Ds, or will we always rely on 3rd party plugins?   Would love to see this built in. Show More

There need to be a way to better animated chains in 3dsmax than using MassFX as the animation of the chain links begin to jitter uncontrollable.  When making slings I use the loft function and then use the twist deformation, this looks great for stills but the twist deformation doesn't work once the loft spline is animated as the control points for the twist move. There needs to be a way to lock these points. Show More

I want an "Archive Selected" button. Let me explain:   I want to send a part of a scene to a colleague, current workflow: -> select everything that he doesn't need -> delete unused layers -> archive scene   This can be tedious, especially with large scenes.   PS: it's different from "Save Selected", as I need to export textures included. There are some major problems with the Spline functions and methods inside MAXScript: Most SplineOps methods require a shape to be selected to use and a sub-object mode selected in Modify tab. Many spline functions will throw MAXscript errors because the functions are incompatible with many shapes. There is no native MAXscript access to shape class generation for SimpleSpline--requiring users to use MAXPlus which may not be supported in the future. Both of these cause very limited functionality/use-case.   In the case of #1, this causes problems when doing looping functions because of how slow it is to select objects and interact with the modify tab. It also means that those functions cannot ever be used in Scripted Shape objects.   In the case of #2, it forces artists or TD into destructive design patterns because very often the shape must be collapsed to an editable spline to be used with functions. For example, if you have a function that wants to do some logic across each knot in a ShapeBoolean, you are at a loss because standard functions to get the sub-splines and knots in subsplines won't work on a ShapeBoolean.   What if you want to know the number of splines generated from a ShapeBoolean? Try:   numSplines  $   MAXScript Error.   Want the number of segments in a ShapeBoolean subspline result?   numSegments $ 1   MAXScript error.   This problem exists with almost any shape method for most shape classes that are not Line or SplineShape.   Even if you try to get around the problem by adding a modifier you might think will make things compatible like Spline Select or Edit Spline, you still cannot get the data via standard MAXScript functions.   In the case of #3, the current limitation forces users to create BezierShapes, for example, by using DotNet objects calling MaxPlus classes. There are talks that MaxPlus may be deprecated at some point. In any event, MAXScript should have native access to creating appropriate shapeclass objects inside a SimpleSpline.   Solution:   Update all Shape functions and SplineOps to be more versatile: Update all SplineOps methods to accepts shape and subobject levels so we can arbitrarily use the functions without messing with selection and sub-object mode. These should allow shape nodes in scenes or objects inside a SimpleSpline. Update all Shape functions to work across all shape classes. Expose all needed functions to create native shape objects inside SimpleSpline with native MAXScript. Show More

It would be handy to be able to get and set vertex normals using polyOp methods. That way, approachable custom tools and modifiers are made possible, as well as advanced Data Channel modifier operators when using the Maxscript operator with Faces as the input. As 3DS users often use lots and lots of scripts for a wide variety of tasks a script manager would be very handy to track what's been installed.... Not only would it be useful for updating /sharing etc but sometimes easy to forget you have that awesome script that does that one particular thing you used last year etc.   It would be great to have: An overview/tally system showing exactly what scripts & plugins are being used by a machine. Be able to easily remove a script cleanly without having to dive through varied folders when its split between main installation and user profiles. Update all scripts from a repository. (I'm sure some studios have their own way of doing things but it would nice to have a proper interface rather than running a .bat script etc.)   Show More
