Maya 2011 ECS SAP Network License

I need some help with my Maya 2011 Maya 2011 Entertainment Creation Suite Subscription Advantage Pack install on Win 7 64bit, which unable to locate the license or license server.

 

I installed the Network License Server and obtained a license, then confirmed it was running as a service.  This is on the same machine Maya is to be installed on, called Workstation.

 

Then I installed Maya 2011 Subscription Advantage Pack, but when starting Maya, it asks for a license file or server to be specificed.  If i specify the server, it says the Server (Workstation) is not respoding, if i specify the license file (the one obtained from Autodesk), I get an error, saying a valid license could not be obtained by the server [-15.570.0].  The server status appears fine, although there does appear to be errors in the diagnostics related to the license file.

 

Also a second server instance was created when i installed Maya 2011 after the Network License Manager, called "FLEXlm License Server" which specifies  "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Alias Shared\Licensing\etc\lmgrd.exe" as the executable and "c:\FlexLm\aw_WORKSTATION.dat" as the license.  This server instance, is not running and is not specified to run as a service, so have simply left it alone for the time being.

The error in the Diagnostics (A PACKAGE component must be specified.) can be ignored.

 

The issue here could be due to ipv6 on the machine.

 

there are few work arounds

 

This thread has similar issue with Autocad 2011 (since licensing is almost similar for Mays 2011 this might help)

Or you could try do a loopback network address resolution in the hosts file

if none of the workaround resolves the issue please try to create a diagnostic variable to get detailed error on the client side(when you start Maya)

(this is applicaple to Maya too, except the path the log would be in the Maya bin directory)

This error is almost surely an IPv6 issue.  What you can do to verify this is open a command prompt and PING workstation.  If it comes back with an IPv6 address or a local :1 loopback address, then you need to rectify it. 

 

The easiest way is to modify your hosts file located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc.  Edit it and remove the localhost entry for :1 and replace it with 127.0.0.1.  If you are using a static IP address, then you should also add Workstation to your IPv4 static address as well.  At that point, you should be able to PING workstation and it will come back with the correct IPv4 address.  Your product should then launch successfully.

Thanks Travis and Hashim,

It was an IPv6 issue, so disabled IPv6 on the adapter, then did the registery fix, but still didn't solve the problem.  However editing the host file and adding the local loopback to the static Ip address of the machine did get it working.
