Revit model precision feature enhancement suggestions

Dear Autodesk Revit Product Team,

I would like to share several feature enhancement suggestions that we believe would significantly improve Revit’s capability and expand its value beyond construction documentation into manufacturing workflows.

1. Minimum Model Unit Precision
   Currently, Revit’s minimum model unit is limited to 0.8 mm. We suggest allowing finer precision, such as 0.01 mm, to better support detailed fabrication-level modeling. This level of accuracy is increasingly important for prefabrication, modular construction, and coordination with manufacturing processes.

2. Export to STEP and NC Formats
   We recommend adding native support for exporting 3D models to STEP and NC formats. These formats are widely used in manufacturing and CNC workflows and would allow Revit models to be directly utilized for fabrication, reducing rework and dependency on intermediate software.

3. Positioning Revit as Both Construction and Manufacturing Software
   With the growing convergence of design, construction, and off-site manufacturing, we see strong potential for Revit to evolve beyond a construction-focused platform into a true design-to-manufacturing solution. Enhancements in precision control and manufacturing-ready exports would be key steps toward this direction.

We appreciate Autodesk’s continued development of Revit and hope these suggestions can contribute to its future roadmap. Thank you for considering this feedback.

@BROOKYAN, you provide 3 excellent points.  Although they are related, it is best to separate them per the guidelines and best practice overall.  That being said, I understand where you are coming from lumping them together, but I have a couple points to make regarding them.  

Item 1. This idea is already out there, but in Imperial, but the same thing: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/allow-us-to-draw-small-detail-and-model-lines/idi-p/67952...

Item 2. Revit can export to STEP files already.  If NC format is something that is desired as well, that could be a great idea. See Item 3. for a more broad brushstroke when it comes to that idea though.  There is an idea regarding import of Fusion files (and others) into Revit here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/fusion-360-parameters-to-revit/idi-p/7490334

Item 3. I understand the desire to make Revit be everything, but that will be hard (basically impossible) to push Autodesk towards.  Autodesk has it's three industry tiers already, and I believe they like it that way.  What you're discussing falls under the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection functionality.  There is definitely some overlap between the two collections, so import/export natively of those file formats between Revit, Fusion, Inventor, and Fabrication(?) would be a great way to start and to really facilitate that Item 1. would need to be implemented first I believe.  Back to Item 2., if Fusion or Inventor don't export NC format, that would be an excellent idea for their Idea boards if it's not already there.   I don't see a Fusion Ideas board.  Fabrication Ideas forum:  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fabrication-ideas/idb-p/fabrication-ideas-en   Inventor Ideas forum: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/idb-p/inventor-ideas-en
