Exploding of staircases

Hi all,

 

My first post here. 

 

Recently, I have been doing a bit of steel staircases. Once I am done, I am not satisfied with the outcome (connecting to stringers perpendicularly, having continuous stringers, connections to concrete base, etc).

 

My idea is, once I have done my staircase with revit stairs, to explode the entity so I can then edit the members individually. I hope this makes sense.

Could the connections be edited or modified like the baseplates of the columns in 2019 Revit?

Even if I have to go into Advanced steel to modify them some?

I have tried that. The connection tool does not recognize the members of the staircase. Even if I tab while hovering over the stair case. The members are only editable in the stair properties, and this doesn't included connections, just types and position.

I to am not too much of a fan of how the stairs connect etc. What I typically do, is to model the stairs with the revit stair module with the stringers setup correctly. once the stair is set and everyone is happy. I use the beam command and the select top inside edge of the stringer with the select lines feature and 3D snapping turned on. You'll need to set the alignment of the beam to match, or align after you're done. I then will duplicate the stair type and remove the supports / stringers. this leaves me with all the stair treads etc but with a beam for the stringers that I can miter, cope and connect as I wish.

Problem is if they move a level or change a floor covering (1/4" checker plate VS 1" walk grating, etc.) you have to rebuild everything from scratch. Not a huge issue on 1 or 2 stairs, but on a stair core of 5-10 different stairs... Big troubles and prone to missing something. Revit stairs need some more development invested in them by Autodesk.

 

If they can work on rebar, they can fix stairs. (and cage ladders)

@SeanSpence They haven't done anything to the how the stairs work. The process you talk about is how I work around it too. It's a bit tedious, but it works.

@Anonymous I wish they worked on the stair features a bit more. In my company, and seems like some of our competitors do the same, we don't use Revit for rebar, but rather other software like Prokon Padds, but we use the stairs very often. Almost every project I work on will have steel stairs in them
