Dimension to snap points

Dimension to snap points

It would be useful to allow dimensioning to all the snapping points of elements, like endpoints, midpoints, nearest, perpendicular and intersections etc.. It would save me a lot of hassle from drawing detail lines just to dimension to a particular point which doesn't update itself when the elements are amended.

Snapping a dimension line to the midpoint of an elements. For example two columns in between is a beam can measure the midpoint of a beam.

Right now you can snap to the middle of a line but not dimension to that point.

Often, circles are 2 arcs and you can only dimension to their endpoints. Please add middle points as a snap on arcs, and give us the ability to dimension to that point as well!

See this discussion on AUGI for proof of a general desire for this feature.

Dimension to midpoint of detail line or elements - Autodesk Community

This is a fantastic idea. It would save a lot of time in complex architectural models, where we are often drawing very short detail lines in order to dimension to the correct point.

If this option is implemented, it should be possible to turn it on / off, so that snap point dimensions don’t get in the way when we don’t need them. Maybe have a Instance parameter for Dimensions: “Dimension to Snaps” checkbox.

Agree, this is a fantastic idea. Also to include the "center" of all circular items, including holes and round objects in families.
