copy legend

copy legend

Hi,

please let us copy legends. It is so **** anyoing. I know and understand that i cant have the same legend on one sheet but i dont want to paste the legend on the same sheet again. I want to paste the legend on another view at the same spot. Its a shame that i cant align legends or views on a sheet. I know there is the guide grid but you are not able to just pick the outline from one view and align another view to it. But i post that idea in another thread.

So back to topic. Let us copy/past legends like we can do it with shedules.

Greetings

Lennart Schlueter

Thanks for taking the time to submit your idea. Unfortunately, this idea did not get the support of the community over the last 6 months and as such we will not be pursuing it at this time. Please feel free to rework (titles and clear descriptions are really important) and resubmit this one down the road.

You have to add the legend from other model to the keynote file of the current project. You can't do it directly because of possible numbering clashes (the legend number in the current project might be already allocated to some other legend/text, thus resulting of 2 legends with the same number). Instead you can copy the legend text manually (copy-paste) in the keynote file of the current project and assign a new number to the new legend.

Duplicate sheets with option to copy with legends so don't have to constantly populate legends on each sheet! And be able to copy legends from sheet to sheet to maintain same placement.

There is a free app in the store that does this perfectly.

If this idea is made built-in, it should show up when you select a Legend on a Sheet (make a "Copy Legend" button on the contextual tab) as well as a right-click menu option.

@tstorzuk Just saw your post. Did you manage to get it working? Do you have BOTH .dll files in the folder (and both unblocked)? If it's still not working, you might want to shoot Tim an email.

@lionel.kai

I would not make it that big. Just enabel CRTL+C and CRTL+V etc. and everything is fine. Everything else is just bonus.

@schlueter You're right - sometimes I get stuck in the "add-in mentality". Smiley Frustrated

It would be incredibly useful if you could "Copy to Clipboard" a legend, in order to paste it into ANOTHER project.  You can do this with drafting views and sheets.  And if a sheet contains any legends, Revit refuses to allow you to copy that sheet to the clipboard.  I can understand (a little) not being able to PASTE a legend into the same project, but in order to accomplish this, you have prevented it being copied to clipboard at all?

Any updates on this? I saw that this has been under-review since 2016.

Is there a reason why legends can't be copied?

Hi,
Not sure why Autodesk doesn't fix this. Iv'e installed an add-in called Sheet Copy by ModPlus. It's free and lets you duplicate sheets with legends so if you set up one sheet with legends you want then copy more sheets from that one.

I'd like to be able to transfer Legends from project to project. Currently the only method without add-ins, is to

  1. In File 'B', re-create every legend
  2. From File 'A' copy and paste the content within each Legend to the corresponding Legend in File B.

Agreed. We create template legends as drafting views (which can't have the legend symbols but works for std. notes, abbreviations, etc.) in a project so that we can use transfer views to bring them in, then have to copy to a real legend if they need to be placed on more than one sheet.
