copy legend

Hi,

please let us copy legends. It is so **** anyoing. I know and understand that i cant have the same legend on one sheet but i dont want to paste the legend on the same sheet again. I want to paste the legend on another view at the same spot. Its a shame that i cant align legends or views on a sheet. I know there is the guide grid but you are not able to just pick the outline from one view and align another view to it. But i post that idea in another thread.

So back to topic. Let us copy/past legends like we can do it with shedules.

Greetings

Lennart Schlueter

@sasha.crotty as you said... "one of the primary reasons we expose an API is so that our partners and customers can solve problems in efficient ways. This is a great example of that in action."

We appreciate that the API is available. Some customers may want to solve their own problems. They may want to put extra time a resources into it AND also be fine with paying Autodesk yearly for upgrades.  I believe that most customers would prefer not to have to fix their own software issues or pay additional money to your partners.

I don't see how this is viewed as an efficient way for many of the reasons @lionel.kai mentioned or when the most efficient resource to fix the software is Autodesk. If the Autodesk partners are the most efficient way to fix the software then bring them on board to fix the issue in the software, not through plugins.

I think where most USERS have an issue is that many of these ideas and fixes that are being asked for are fundamental flaws (of course this can be debated based on perspective). They are not being addressed or are being addressed way too slowly.

The feedback you get is from your USERS. They are typically not your CUSTOMER directly. Your customers are the companies and corporation that cut the yearly check. Users just have to sit back and watch their companies get fleeced. All the while the companies expect more from their employees because of what promises Autodesk sells to them. Then users get stuck having to produce and get very little help from Autodesk. We get... here’s the API, go fix it yourself or buy it from our partner but your company still has to pay us every year.

Autodesk = no accountability

P.S. I didn't have a bad day.... I am just tired of the cop outs.

Hi,

Iv'e asked the question too. I now use Sheet Copy (FREE from Autodesk App Store. link below) which allows you to copy sheets & views with legends so they are all in the same place, neat and tidy. no wasting time dragging legends on to countless sheets and aligning them all one by one! If there is a plug-in for it, why then can't Autodesk make it a function of Revit?! A simple solution i would think.

Tip: Set up the first sheet with the legends that you want, then use that sheet as the 'Parent Sheet' to copy from. Do this for the different sheet types you need, set it up in the project template so you don't have to do it for each project.

@Anonymous Can it copy selected Legends to EXISTING Sheets? If not, we'd still need Tim's Legend Copy (and wouldn't see much use for Sheet Copy, as our Legends don't usually get put on until after SD).

In general, I try to avoid installing add-ins unless absolutely necessary - it's just too much to manage...

For example, one of our drafters got a new CPU recently, and last week was trying to make a PDF, but didn't have Tim Logan's No Plot add-in installed! If we could only have one add-in, that would be it, and yet it wasn't installed? It had slipped through the cracks...

I'm still trying to troubleshoot the source of an intermittent problem on Windows 10 that causes Revit 2017 to hang while launching. I'd thought it was related to pyRevit (because the log screen was up when it crashed), but now I'm not so sure (since I removed the pyRevit.addin and Revit still crashed, but I want to see if still happens after a restart).

Similarly, we've had various issues with No Plot working fine in one version, but not another, but because it's not from Autodesk, we can't expect support (even though I suspect many issues are Autodesk-caused). For example, if there's a "NPLT" subcategory of Levels in Revit 2018, No Plot won't properly finish (and so the NPLT elements remained turned off) and you have to (hopefully remember to) manually undo the operation to make them visible again. There's no problem with that subcategory in previous versions. Similarly, if a link is hidden in a view, No Plot will make it visible again. I don't have time to look through the code (even though it's open source) to try to fix the problem myself, so we wind up having to change the way we do things (and hope we remember) by hiding elements in the link instead (luckily, we rarely need to hide the whole link anyway).

m.steffannoe wrote a nice little mini-rant yesterday on why we shouldn't have to roll our own fixes for Revit.

But since we're on the topic of add-ins to fix missing Legend functionality, this WORKAROUND is something I need to look up occasionally: list what Sheets a Legend is on

  • Select an element in a Legend and use pyRevit > Analysis > Inspect > "Find Sheets Showing Selected Element"

This should be a no-brainer. It's a huge waste of time for us on every project as we recreate several legend views. Come on, Autodesk....

Revit treats legends like a view therefore it doesn't come with the option to copy/paste into a sheet.  However, legends are so common to place on a typical sheet, it would be very helpful if the revit adds this capability.  Also, it would be great if revit considers adding legends into the "insert from file".  Thanks!

@Anonymous Revit allows the legend to be created as a "Key Legend" and that can be dragged and dropped onto any sheet.  I am not sure what you mean by copy and paste, if the drag and drop of the same legend is already an option.   I do agree, it would be beneficial to have the option to "insert from file" standard legends created over time.

Can't wait for this to be on!

Please don't forget to allow them to be grouped. This way we can make a change to one group of legends and sechedules and have them replicated to all the apropriated sheets, or swap easelly between organization based on the layout chosen.

Thanks!

Happy to announce that the ability to copy legends has been added as part of Revit 2020. Please see the what's new post for this and other new features.

Please make it possible to copy legends to clipboard and paste them into another project.

Just like, we can do with schedules 🙂

Still not possible to copy to clipboard and paste legends into another project.

@ViviNyehuusAndersen Actually, it is possible in 2020: you just have to copy between Sheets (which may mean making "dummy" sheets, if needed).

wow Thanks a bundle😊

Did not think at this, now I can place all the legends in one sheet and copy paste them into my project.

Love it👍🏼

This idea will be implemented....

Autodesk barely takes the Ideas seriously, so please don't give them another reason to ignore it.

It has not bin implicated!

They need to add copy to clipboard and paste available for multiple legends.

Time is valuable, and workarounds don’t pay of.
