Allow schedules to display multi-line input properly

Allow schedules to display multi-line input properly

When inputting information into a Revit schedule, if you want to input multiple lines (not wrapped text) into the cell you can press Shift - Return.

When the schedule is placed on a sheet, its displayed correctly and multiple lines can be seen.

But when editting the schedule in a schedule view Revit will only display the first line, there is no ability to expand the row.

This makes it difficult and confusing to work with the informaiton - its easy to miss and delete.

The schedule view should be able to cater for multi-line input just like it does when placed on a sheet.

@wr.marshall  Will do! Thank you!

Schedule text should be able to text wrap. This keeps all the information visible and helps reduce errors. Also the schedule may not have to be stretched, requiring R/L scrolling.

@ChrisGamble  @wr.marshall I think those are similar enough to combine.

tabbing in a schedule multi-line should also be an option

Similarly, parameter fields should wrap.

This fix would also make it a lot easier to use note blocks for plan notes.

I'd like to suggest that this idea is similar to this one: Edit Schedule Directly on Sheet

The two ideas are probably not similar enough to combine, but they would both greatly improve the ease of editing multi-line text in schedules.

If Revit doesn't start showing all text in each cell in a schedule I am going to self-combust at some point in 2023. It's details like this that remind me that the program developers have not ever combed through a 4 page door schedule doing quality control. Please, please, please, allow us to see all the text in a cell.

Still no solution?

Bump. The lack of seemingly basic functionality in schedules is a continual source of frustration.

ISSUE: (SAME IN Revit 2024.0) multiline text fails to past correctly and fails to format correctly in schedule (& Tags!).

EXAMPLE:  Text copy-pasted from word formatted bullet list:

Sample lockset 1

  • Some lock
  • Some properties
    • Some sub properties

Pasted, then re-Copied from Multiline text:

Sample lockset 1
•<tab>Some lock
•<tab>Some properties
o<tab>Some sub properties

^Not the pre-tab was incorrectly interpreted on copy+re-paste.

EXPECTED:
Indents and tabs retained as tabs (& Displayed in schedule accordingly);
-At the very least tabs and indents auto-converted to 4-spaces per tab;

PROPOSED SOLUTION-
We could use multiline text formatting in the schedules (And Tags!). I.e. editing a multi line text parameter and adding it to the schedule should have the option in the schedule to show like a graphical object schedule. Use existing custom controls and displays for free text within schedule multiline fields:

WORKAROUND:

  • Convert text to image and link into schedule:
  • Results vary
  • In word to
    • Setup consistent "sheets" to match text sizes
    • Each sheet is an image
    • Export Images
    • Link to Revit as image from schedule:

ISSUE WITH THIS METHOD: cannot show information in a tag.

ISSUE:

Tag functionality completely lacking:

*Could be converted for tags in simplified Rich Text Format with field forced to wrap, and formatted per mtext values for indentes, etc.
