Allow change of the default setting for open Worksets for an active Revit central model

Allow change of the default setting for open Worksets for an active Revit central model

Currently, the setup of the default setting for open Worksets is possible only when saving a new central file. The alternative is to use the Options while opening the file, which must be adjusted each time.

The suggested functionality will be to have the opportunity to change the default settings for open Workset for an active central file without creating a new central. This would avoid the creation of a new central file and thus maintain the version history and the link connection between the files.

Why every time i make a new local file, the default workset is the one used by the last user who synchronised?
Because of that its too easy to model on the wrong workset.

Worksets (as well as Browser Organization) should be user-specific, not project-specific

Every time someone opens a new local file...…..the current workset is on whatever the last person to sync had it set to!

There should be a way to change your settings so that the default workset will always be the active one when you open the model.

Why this is not implemented in revit 2020?

Hi @Yien_Chao,

If you are afraid of modelling on the wrong workset, why not consider this little tool that switches between preset worksets automatically (by category, family or type):

(disclaimer: I'm the developer and I'm more than happy to make further improvements to this!)

question here is : Why it doesn't already works by user's interface? yes we can add tools and addin, but designers have a project to do more than memorize software caprice or add another layer of tools.

It's either Autodesk adding more functionality (which they don't, at least not at the requested pace, I mean, this was requested over 4 years ago) or independent developers like us. The difference is that we listen 😉

Have you SEEN the list of new features for 2022?

@dplumb_BWBR you mean because worksets are added to schedules? That's less annoying than before but still manual work to assign the correct worksets. But you can batch assign the wrong worksets now 😉 The multi category schedules make it bearable, but still, nothing beats automation.

It would be very beneficial if the default Open Workset behavior could be changed without having to Save As a new central file. With non-cloud based projects, it's easy enough to save as a new file, but with cloud projects downloading the file, doing a Save As and reuploading into the cloud is very disruptive, especially in cases where the project is at an advanced stage and is already being linked into other models.

Hi, @WesMcElhanySTN ,

Is this the functionality you are looking for, or something completely different? This is in the Open dialog, when a workshared model is selected.

Hi @kimberly_fuhrman-jones . Unfortunately, that is not what I'm looking for. I'm talking about changing the default workset opening behavior. My problem is that I have cloud models where the default is set to Last Viewed or All but I want to change them to Specify.

I understand that people can navigate to the model and choose to open with Specify worksets, but most of the time they will choose the path of least resistance which is clicking on the thumbnail in Recent Files, which uses the default behavior. Currently the only option to change the default is to download the model, Save As a new central, and then reupload. That is not an option because how many other models already have these models linked in.

Absolutely yes.... 66 models per projects, and have to do it on creation or have to re collaborate all of them.. nah....just educate the team... but this feature would be awesome.

You must be working for the same client I am!
