Editing a grouphas a very convenient 'Add to Group' and 'Remove from Group' command that lets you add or remove objects to/from the group while you are in the process of editing. It works great.
It would be fantastic if design options could function in a similar fashion!!!
Thought this might be a big help but nope, no way to remove from a set.. (to make matters worse the "edit selected" option make you think you can..) Cant use them in schedules easily either.. Revit promises so much but falls over so often..
You can use the "add to set"-dialog to remove elements but you cant open the dialog for elements already in the set you are viewing.
You need to open the dialog from the main view. Select the elements by unchecking "Exclude options".
Solution:
1. Select the "main model" design option in the design option panel on manage tab or from selector on bottom toolbar.
2. Uncheck "Exclude options" in bottom right toolbar to make all elements selectable in main view
3. Select the elements you wish to remove from a design option
4. Go to manage tab and press "add to set" button
5. Uncheck the design options you wish to exclude the elements from
The "add to set" should be renamed to "add/remove from design option", the "exclude options" filter should be selectable from the actual design options panel and the error for "element already in design option" should be removed.
@spindelmannen420 This does not work, the errors "None of the selected elements can be added to this Option Set. The following warnings provide additional information." and "Elements that were already in a Design Option were selected. These will not be added to the Option Set." when attempting to uncheck the option set the element is in to return it to the main model.
Cut and paste is still the only way to remove elements from a design option set and return them to the main model when an option can't be accepted, which is undesirable since any tagging of the element will be lost.
If Autodesk spent as much time and money actually improving their products, documentation, and knowledge base as they do re-branding or re-pricing or other marketing tricks aimed at short-term stockholder gains, they might actually create brand loyalty instead of brand hostages.
There is a solution if you plan to remove all design options or bring specific elements from a design option back into the main model. Simply select 'Option Set 1' (or the desired option set and temporarily make it "Primary"). This will display all the elements. Then, click 'Accept Primary,' which will transfer all elements from the selected option set back to the main model.
Important note: Make sure the design option you plan to bring back to the main model is set as the primary one; otherwise, the elements will be deleted.
@octavio.nilaUNGGM, that's not the point. That deletes ALL other options. The problem is when I'm first setting up the options and trying to sort out what needs to be in the option and what needs to be part of the main model, something that can frequently change as redesigns happen. Ideally I could move an object from the main model to an option, from that option to another option, and from the other option back to the main model, all without disconnecting it (which is what the cut / paste in same place does).

Design Options in general needs a pretty good overall. As it is currently, we rarely actual use them just because they are so convoluted to set up and manipulate and use. A team of actual users along with Autodesk developers... maybe 20 people in total max... need to sit down in a room and work out how the design options needs to work and what functions it needs to have. Build it and let us have it. Thank you.
@kimberly_fuhrman-jones I'd vote to definitely add this one to that second one and then combine with the first one. These are all basically saying the same thing.
