The RVT export dialog can create an IFC file together with the RVT via the Export IFC option. This option is not available through the Inventor API. RevitExports.Add() creates the RVT, but there is no way to request the IFC that the same export produces interactively. This is not a request for another IFC exporter. The request is to expose the IFC output that the RVT export already creates. Export IFC option in the RVT export dialog (Inventor 2027.1). RevitExportDefinition has no corresponding property. Why ExportBuildingComponentWithOptions() is not an equivalent alternative BIMComponent.ExportBuildingComponentWithOptions() supports IFC 4x3 and is the documented API route for IFC. For machine and plant assemblies it does not give the same result. My tests with Inventor 2027.1, IFC 4x3, without a substitute: Assembly with 54 parts, RVT export with Export IFC: 54 individual elements (IfcBuildingElementProxy, one per part), 442 property sets in total, file size 31 MB. Same assembly, ExportBuildingComponentWithOptions(): one single element, 26 property sets, file size 101 MB. The interactive Export Building Components command produced identical entity counts. Larger assembly (several hundred parts): RVT export with IFC approx. 1 minute, Export Building Components approx. 10 minutes, again one single element. When Export Building Components is started interactively on an assembly, Inventor recommends creating a Simplify Substitute to meet the BIM Content requirements. This indicates that the workflow is intended for a single building component rather than a structured assembly. I could not reproduce the assembly structure retention described for this API on the Autodesk Developer Blog. Current API limitation (tested with Inventor 2027.1; RevitExportDefinition also checked in 2027.0) RevitExportDefinition has no property to enable the IFC output or select the IFC version. Calling Update() on a Revit export that was created in the dialog with IFC 4x3 regenerated only the RVT in my test, not the IFC. In my tests the Export IFC selection was not written to the preset file, the registry or CommandSettings.xml. After a restart the dialog shows None again. Automated workflows (for example a Vault Job Processor creating RVT files on release) can therefore deliver the RVT, but not the IFC that recipients such as steel fabricators and BIM coordinators request. Request Add an IFC output property to RevitExportDefinition with the same choices as the dialog (IFC 2x3, IFC 4x3), so that RevitExports.Add() creates RVT and IFC like the interactive export. Alternatively, a method on the RevitExport object returned by RevitExports.Add() that writes the IFC for this export. For automated workflows both options solve the problem equally.
