LMTOOLS fail to set DACL on new service

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have downloaded and installed the latest edition v11.13.1.2 Build 173302 x64_n6 on 3 brand new servers running Window 2012 R2. Installed using default suggested path and then started LMTOOLS to create a new service. When i am finished i click "Save Service" and get an error message.

---------------------------
Updating DACL Failed
---------------------------
Service has been created but failed to update the DACL settings of FlexNet Licensing Service. It will give problem for accessing TS features. Check whether FlexNet Licensing Service is correctly installed or not and delete and create this service again
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

There is no info in Event log or in LMTOOL log that can assist me in this matter.

I am loggen on as Administrator and have all rights.

that one doesn't help my end and if i try to downgrade i get 'not a valid win32 application' on that other file

and I'm starting to think its the old server being an issue:

The Autodesk Network License Manager using the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 8 / 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)

ack, timed out editing previous post...

i do manage to get LMtools to run and able to read the license if i use version v11.9.0.0 build 87342 x64_n6 from a deployment suite from 2013

unfortunately, when I got t run a 2016 product it won't recognize a valid license server so i'm thinking its too old. i'll try and find a 2016 deployment and see if i can get the lmtools from there...

@CRAengineer

For 2015 and 2016 you need at least version  11.12.   However you can use the new version (11.13.1.2) as well.  It can be found here.

unfortunately the 'new' version for 2017 doesn't work for our windows 2003 r2 x64 server... the download of 11.12.1.4 seemed like it should work but i kept getting errors of 'not a valid win32 build'

yes, we're using x64...

Capture.JPG

...so we downloaded 2016 again and installed the NLM fom there.... now we're at least back to having our 2016 products working.

as for 2017... we may nee to upgrade the server before we can get that going.

Using my two blogs I've haven't had any problems helping our customers, or getting our 5 internal license managers, get up and running on flexlm 11.13.1.2 as long as it was installed on a supported operating system.

DACL error:

Unable to start the service:

Adding the 27005 did not work in my case

I still get the error

Your error is stating that your adskflex.exe vendor file is too old.
Update to the 2017 version.

Thanks - that worked - I had remnants of lmgrd.exe  adskflex.exe etc in the program files directory (even after unistalling).

I copied the c:\Autodesk\N..L..M contents to the program files directory and then it worked OK

This warning dialog does not affect NLM because we don't use Trusted Storage (TS) in network license, both server and client sides.  It can be ignored without having to downgrade.

I just ignored it, and it worked. So people should try that before trying any of the work arounds in this thread. Thanks for all the great info everyone

Re: LMTOOLS fail to set DACL on new service
04-15-2016 10:48 AM in reply to: m.mees

I’ve resolved this problem on 2 different servers using this … and one of my co-workers had the same call this morning from another customer and I had her Save again and it worked.

Autodesk Flex license manager error - Updating DACL Failed

If you are receiving this error with the new 11.13.1.2 license manager you are not alone.

I had a call on this and it also happened on one of my 2 servers that I upgraded to flexlm version 11.13.1.2.

Situation:

Solution:

This resolution worked on the above clients server and mine.

  1. Click Ok on the dialog box.
  2. Click Save again.

This time we did not receive the error message.

  1. Go to the Start/Stop/Reread tab
  2. Click Start Server
  3. Verify you have licenses by clicking "Perform Status Enquiry" on the "Server Status" tab.

Worked!!

Thanks Darin. This answer solved my issue when I tried to install the Autodesk 2017 license server from the AutoCAD 2017 install media on a Windows Server 2012 R2 server.
