Autodesk Network License Manager update required !!!

Autodesk Support

Autodesk Customers with Multi-user subscription or Token-flex implementation using Autodesk Network License Manager (NLM) are required to upgrade the Network License Manager to the latest version v11.18.x to support Autodesk 2020 and newer version products on and after April 1st, 2022.  Therefore, we suggest upgrading the license server by March 2022 to have room for addressing any unforeseen issues and receiving prompt assistance from Autodesk Product Support.

You can download and install the latest version of Autodesk Network License Manager for all the OS platforms by following the instructions mentioned here: https://www.autodesk.com.sg/support/download-install/admins/network-licenses/install-licensing-softw...

For detailed information on all changes and system requirements for Network License Manager, please refer to the release notes from Revenera.

For Autodesk customers on Enterprise Business Agreement (Token Flex), they are recommended to contact their Technical Support contact to get assistance on upgrading to the required version of NLM (and reporting solution, as applicable).  This is NOT applicable to the Token Flex customers that have migrated to Network License Reporting Manager.

Check out a quick reference guide for setting up the Autodesk Network License Manager on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Sorry, the picture didn't show up in my email. The client update for the
licensing service is not "required" from what I can tell. I do not run
it. I do not run any updates unless I experience a problem that is
rectified by an update. At the time of this post, many folks have had
errors after this update, so I wouldn't just dive in simply because it's
the latest version. Just my 2 cents.

no, rather the opposite. our experience is that 11.18.00 must be installed on the server and the latest update from the Licensing Service (12.2.0.17) must NOT be installed or used, it only works if you use an older version (<12.2.0.17).

I have always install the patches as they come in but this one got me, after installing it the license became unavailable. IS uninstalled everything and reinstalled Inventor but the old patches are no longer available via desktop, we even uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop app however it continues to say I need this patch problem patch but offers no older one. Currently the newly installed Inventor says it is at a Feb. 2020 level and for some reason a drawing that had no problems before the patch was installed and uninstalled, now crashes every time it is opened. So please let us know when you fix the fix. I or IS can't get inventor to install any older patches and they apparently are not available for download anywhere that we can find other than via the app.

Life should not be this hard.

Reinstalling does not revert the license version. You probably need to do
that manually.

IS tried to remove it manually, they followed the instructions found on the website, cannot tell you the details but it did not work. Uninstall and reinstalled cleared the licensing issues however Inventor is now stuck in Feb 2020 and certain large drawings will not open and crash, Autodesk should have a whole slew of crash reports on this.

The computer is set to have a total system Imaging over the weekend because working with a software should not be this hard,  we do not have a dedicated AutoDesk IS person, to them it is a novelty. Thanks to that patch I’m four days behind in production, but at least I warned the rest of the team not to install the patch so we still have four functional designers.

Based on the above thread all I can say to AutoDesk, please don’t offer a patch if it is going to be such a problem for so many, we trusted the patches. I am always the one to try it first in a "give it Betty and see if it blows up" kind of way.

In short: no. I installed the latest NLM a couple of months ago, way before the latest Client Licensemanager. No problems there.

Basam Yousif posted the solution for trouble with the latest Client Licensemanager.
If you update the NLM license manager to 11.18, not all components are replaced by the new version. You won't notice that until you install Client Licensemanager  12.2.0.17.

Dear Customers,

As Autodesk, we continuously strive to improve your subscription experience and minimize efforts related to installing and keeping Autodesk desktop products up to date.
Our installer technology has made significant improvements, both in product install and deployments, as well as in the ability to install critical updates automatically in case of issues related to security, compliance, or stability of critical components.

What was the issue?

Beginning 11th July, an update for Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service, specifically v12.2, was unintentionally installed automatically on some end user machines. Unfortunately, we discovered that this resulted in some customers experiencing temporary disruptions in access to the products because they were still using an unsupported version of Autodesk Network License Manager (NLM).

On 21st July, the automatic installation of this update was disabled.

Our latest Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service updates are no longer compatible with older versions of NLM. We talked about this previously in this forum post as well as in our release notes for v12.2 update.

Why this happened?

Our intention was to release this specific update only via optional channels such as Autodesk Knowledge Network update page, Autodesk Accounts portal and Autodesk Desktop App.

The automatic update rollout for this update was unintentional, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused due to this error.

What is Autodesk doing to avoid such issues in future?

Internally, we have made improvements in our update publishing processes to help prevent this from happening in the future.

In addition, we continue to evolve our platform to enable customers to stay up to date with critical updates in as effortless a manner as possible.  Based on customer feedback, we are evaluating controls for admins to manage how and when users receive updates.

We recognize that the previous community forum posts regarding required NLM upgrade did not attract enough call-to-action. Hence, beginning August 12th, we have started sending out NLM upgrade required communication to all multi-user subscription customers and targeted token flex customers to update NLM promptly to avoid running into similar issues in future while accessing any newer update of Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service or with future updates of our desktop products.  For accessing the latest version of NLM, please refer - here

What can customers do to prepare better?
To prevent this issue from happening in future, we recommend that customers review update documentation and install our component updates (such as NLM updates) in timely manner.

Thank You,

The Autodesk Team
