I am a hs engineering teacher and we are in the process of buying a boss ls2436 machine. i was hoping you can build a post processor for the Boss line to work in the HSM software. I have done my best to integrate HSM into all my curricula.since we have machines it supports HAAS, Intellitec. i introduce around 1000 students to the HSM and inventor software annually and would really like to show the diversity of the HSM program. I don't know how many of you work with aluminium profiles but the raw material definition is always a bit difficult.   If you define the raw part as a block the system will always remove too much material that is not available at all. So you have to make a solid and define it as raw material.   If it is a series and you always make the same part then you make the effort and finish. But if you have to mill something different from the same material every time, it's a bit more time-consuming. Here is a picture of one of the profiles we work on. The profile is always the same, but the length and the milling changes constantly.   It would be cool if you select the solid as a model in the setup and then take the same solid in the raw part. Now you have a checkbox with the option "Extend silhouette". The user chooses in which direction the silhouette should be extended X, Y or Z. It depends on how the part lies.   That means the system looks so at the part if you have selected the right axis:   Now you have 2 fields with which you can extend the silhouette at the front and at the back because often you saw a bit longer. If there is 0 in these fields, only a profile with the length of the model will be created.   The same applies of course to standard L-profiles, U-profiles, square tubes, etc.   You'd save yourself the trouble of creating a blank profile every time. This is specifically for Fusion360 (and maybe InventorHSM)   Many times when a tool path is taking too long to generate I will open and edit it to see if I can make it generate faster.  But when you do this it doesn't automatically abort generation.  It keeps going with the old parameters even though the result will just be thrown out when it regenerates with the new parameters.  This makes sense if you cancel any changes, but if you accept them it keeps calculating with the outdated parameters.   To keep this from happening I have to go into the CAM task manager and manually abort the path generation and THEN edit the parameters.  If you forget to do this you can tie up your CPU for a VERY long time while it chugs away calculating invalid paths.     C| Show More

In the 3D strategy spiral, with the option circle, only the outer boundary is milled with a circle.   It would be good if the option is active and the spiral is machined in a round pocket so that the circle is milled through every time an outer wall is reached.     Another good option would otherwise be to incorporate a spiral function in the circular milling strategy. At the moment, you can only set multiple milling operations in this strategy. But every time the milling cutter goes back for a Moment.   Sometimes we have bigger round pockets and in the middle something is already milled free. Then we take a contour cutter, dip directly in the middle and roughen away the pocket in a spiral. This way you always have constant pressure.   Drill milling is not a good strategy because you always mill in a helix and only with the cutter tip. This one is hard to describe.  Id like to see the ability to control where the tool goes before starting the operation.  Maybe I am missing something, but I have tried every option I can think of, it could also be on purpose for safety though.  The problem is that the tool always goes to the inner radius before starting the operation.  So if your inner radius is zero so that a boring bar finishes all the way to the center of the part, it will go to zero before starting, then moves out to the outer radius.  Would be nice to just say "Start at Outer Radius".    The issue I have with it is just that it FEEDS from the start position to where its going to begin cutting.  If it was a rapid move, it wouldnt be as big of a deal, but when you are feeding a small grooving tool at 0.001, it adds a lot of time to the cycle.   Here is a screen shot of the example: Show More

In HSMWorks, it would be very helpful to have a feature users could enable which would show a pop up for the descriptions of the operations on the CAM tab at the top of the screen. There are some informative pop ups when navigating within the actual operations, but I often have to consult the HSMWorks help index for choosing the proper machining strategy to begin with (contour vs. pencil vs. flow, etc.).   This would help both new and experienced users alike, and I feel like it would be easy to implement.   Thank you. Long time ago the idea was discussed under the topic "2D Pocket - Totally Open Contour". Unfortunately years after it is still not there. Would be nice to add other strategies to the Facing operation. The one I am looking in particular would generate the tool path similar to the one below. This toolpath was produced with 2D Adaptive Clearing - and hence the curved tool path lines. I would like to see a simple path: South, West, North, East, etc with straight lines.   Any hopes for the future incorporation? Show More

If there is one workpiece (say a round cylinder), the stock box points are around the perimieter and the center - allowing easy selection of an appropriate zero reference for the milling operation.   If I assemble 2 cylinder as workpieces (for pattern milling), the stock box points become the corners of the whole volume of space between the two workpieces, and the center is the center between them and not the center of the cylinders.   It would be good if the stock box points could include both, the whole volume of space between all the workpieces, as well as the stock points of each assembled workpiece. Here's the idea. Modify the post to see if the user programmed a dwell greater than say 5 seconds (this is the trigger for the M00 program stop). I'm sure no one uses that long of a dwell. When the post sees the dwell value greater than the 5 seconds it posts a M19 for spindle orientation and a M00 at the full drill depth of the cycle using the long cycle not the canned cycle. This way any user can program a part stop using a sketched circle center point for reference of the tool for the program stop. I know the UI can't simulate this and I'm fine with that.
