Stock size relative to UCS

Stock size relative to UCS

I'm setting up my stock for a simple profile cut on a mill. Fixed size stock should have the option to be relative to the coordinate system selected, not the uncut model. When I set up my stock on the milling machine, Ill use my X,Y corner as a datum, not my uncut part. I'll also use either my table as a Z0 or the top of my part, so centering in Z is really pointless. In the enclosed picture, the stock is centered around the uncut part. As a machinist, I'd want stock to be where I need it to be. In "MODE", a choice of "relative to coordinate system" would be perfect.

Hi @Anonymous, I am not entirely sure what you are asking for here. Could you perhaps make an example where you draw the desired stock and WCS position using the modeling tools and attach it here?

Thanks in advance.

When I make a model in 360, I'll sometimes draw a sketch line around it to
represent my stock(whatever scraps I have, they aren't always square). I'll
set my coordinate system to the lower left corner of that stock. I'll use
an edge finder to locate the corner on the mill. I'll set my coordinate
system to that same location in CAM/setup. When I set up my stock, there
should be a place where i match up my stock to the same coordinate system.
I did notice in the geometry settings that I can check the stock contours
box(pic #1), but this doesn't change my stock position back in "setup" (pic
#2 notice the stock does not line up with the coordinate system). As a
machinist, it doesn't really make sense to just randomly place stock evenly
around an uncut model. In another example, I'll draw "stock" to represent a
previous machining operation or a finished piece that needs a second
operation. This is where my example would be very handy.
I hope this adds clarity to my previous comments.

If you're already creating a sketch, why not just extrude it and use Stock from Solid? Should take seconds and be perfectly reliable.
