Hi, I found there is a RAM problem when FlexSim model calls python scripts -- the arguments passed to python seems not cleaned-up, which accumulate RAM usage, slows down the simulation significantly, and eventually blocked everything.  This is a big problem for my team as we use external python algorithms to process large datasets from simulation. When the RAM are totally used up by FlexSim, we could no longer call the algorithms sufficiently. I use the attached model & script to identify the problem. The model does nothing but passing large inputs to a dummy python script. My RAM got peaked to 32G after 3000 python calls. FlexSim_RAM_Problem.jpg I further observed that: 1) The complexity of the python script does not worsen the problem 2) The computation data generated internally in python does not worsen the problem 3) The size of the python output does not worsen the problem 4) Cleaning the input in FlexScript (e.g., rewrite it to NULL or use Map.clear()) does not mitigate the problem 5) Cleaning the input in python (e.g., rewrite it to NULL or use del & gc.collect()) does not mitigate the problem So, I feel the problem is only on the model side that the arguments passed to external python are not getting cleaned.  Do you think there is, or will be, a solution?  Thank you Show More

In FlexSim 25.0, BasicFR and BasicTE have been removed from the standard 3d library. I am using them a lot when I teach FlexSim. Please vote to restored them in the standard 3d library. Show More

Hi FlexSimmers, This is a common performance measure requirement which is asked by many customers of us. Constructing the utilization vs time is not an easy task also. The user has to create the utilization vs time from the conceptual model which we provide. FlexSim currently supports importing SketchUp 2019 models. On SketchUp 3D warehouse (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/), you can easily download a SketchUp 2019 model:   And then import it directly in FlexSim. In January 2022, SketchUp 2022 will be released. It's very likely that SketchUp 2019 format will be removed from the download pickoptions in the 3D warehouse. This means that FlexSim users will not be able to directly import a SketchUp file downloaded from the 3D warehouse. They will need to open the file in SketchUp, and then export it to an older SketchUp version or another format. As far as I know, this is not possible in SketchUp free, it requires a license or a subscription. If you want that FlexSim updates the SketchUp importer, please vote for this idea.   Show More

In the 3D view, entry and exit transfers are drawn with the same shape: a white square. As a result, when you have several entry and exit transfers along a conveyor it's not always obvious which white squares are entry transfers and which ones are exit transfers: It would be helpful if users could see the difference between entry and exit transfers at a glance. I have noticed 3 inconsistencies in the naming. Although they do not affect the functionality of the software in any way I suggest to standardise the text: 1. The field "Inter-Arrival Time" - at least in two places it is named differently. I suggest unifying it with the form "Inter-Arrival Time". See Figure 1 for details.   2. Triggers responsible for entering data into the table - as in Figure 2. In the case of the trigger available on the object, there is no space ("GlobalTable"), while in the Custom Code Activity the space is visible ("Global Table"). Additionally, in the Custom Code Activity there is an unnecessary space before "Add Row..."   3. Spaces between characters in the declaration of statistical distributions. The idea is after the models layouts analysis generate an output layout, (similar to CAD *.dwg) with dimensions and 2D drawing in order to use as a documentation to move the factory equipment (change the real layout) according to the FlexSim simulation model layout definition. This would be similar to the stop time. However, instead of running the model at the set run speed and stopping at the designated time. It would run the model at max speed (even better if the views did not update either) until the designated time and then stop. This would allow the user to get the the desired time faster and without having to change the run speed. I know that some may see this as trivial. However, when you are debugging a model (or trying to create a video) you often find yourself in a situation where you are constantly trying to get to a certain point in the model and then run from there. It gets quite tedious if you have to constantly adjust the run speed and even more so if you have to minimize views, dashboards, etc. so that the model runs faster to the stop time. Show More

Hi, In trainings, I have noticed that most beginners don't pay attention / don't remember that there is a shortcut in the toolbar to open the FlowItem Bin: Maybe also because users don't really picture at first sight what this strange icon means. I think that the FlowItem Bin would deserve to have its name shown in the toolbar, just like other tools such as Backgrounds / Dashboards / Process Flow. The FlowItem Bin is at least as frequently used as Backgrounds. Maybe more. With the new property system, dynamically modifying a conveyor system has become easier. I was just missing one property: Rise. It looks like the variable can be set directly without finalizeSpatialChanges but it would still be nice if I could set it using setProperty or through a Property Table without having to (re)calculate the full EndLocation. Hi, I reported this bug to the dev team more than 6 months ago. It is still not fixed, so I post it here hoping that your votes will increase the priority of fixing this bug. While working on a model, have you already got a grayed out library panel like below ? Or, the 3D view becomes grayed out like below ? Or with any other window... sometimes even the whole workspace. In the gif below, here is an example: I get an error in the console, I close the system console, then the left panel is grayed out. My Windows display scaling level is at 100%, and I get grayed out windows from times to times. For users who work with a windows display scaling level >100%, for example 125%, unfortunately this occurs much more frequently. If you want to reproduce the steps, in your Windows display settings change the scale to 125%: Reopen FlexSim. Open the attached model Grayed window.fsm. Reset and Run, then Stop. Close the System Console. The model view is grayed: Actually, it's not always exactly repeatable. If I repeat the same steps as above, sometimes the 3D view is still fine, but the left panel becomes grayed: And sometimes the windows also reload correctly. In the Processor properties, when you use the sampler to pick an operator, it returns 2 suggestions: using a pointer (often the most preferred way) or using a Model.find() syntax In the MultiProcessor properties, when you use the sampler to pick an operator, it returns only 1 suggestion: using a Model.find() syntax It would be more convenient if the sampler also suggests to get a reference to the operator using a pointer. Hi Flexsimmers, The addition of the kinematics commands as activities as a part of process flow which I think will be a great improvement in FlexSim as a new feature. Right now we have to depend on the kinematic commands to create a custom kinematic movement and the commands are having a very large number of parameters which is not easy to remember, time-consuming and difficult for the non-programming type of modelers who rely totally on process flow. So every time when I want to do kinematics I have to go back to the manual and check the kinematic commands and parameters. Ideally, it will be better if we have separate kinematic activities to perform to the translate, rotate and turn operations in the process flow. And the token once entered the kinematic activities should have a wait till complete feature so that we don't have to calculate the time of completion of a kinematic activity to kick start the next process or the next kinematic activity. double Time= addkinematic(labelref,x.y,z,rx,ry,rz,0,5,5,Model.time,1); double KinematicDuration = Time - Model.time; As a side note right now Flexsim has conveyor item kinematics incorporated as pick list in the conveyor module.
