@andrejs_kononcuks Did you restart your PC yet?

Is this issue in ALL of your files, or just this one single DWG file?
Is your 2024 current (2024.1.6 should be what ABOUT command in the program shows)?

Is PICKADD set to 2? and PICKFIRST is set to 1?

Hay @spenpen.

After changing all things, I did restart my laptop!

Yes. All files have this issue.

AutoCAD verion: 2024.1.6

PICKADD = 2 and PICKFIRST = 1

In CUI key(s) = SHIFT and macro 1 (Key Down) = ^P'_.orthomode $M=$(if,$(and,$(getvar,orthomode),1),$(-,$(getvar,orthomode),1),$(+,$(getvar,orthomode),1))

In Raster Design Options --> User Preferences --> Mouse settings check box unselected.

Holding SHIFT for more than 1 sec, even for 3 sec and nothing. Tried with ORTHO on and ORTHO off, same nothing.

Maybe something with my AutoCAD been 3D no 2D.

@andrejs_kononcuks You are welcome to share your DWG file here for others to try: we are all end users just like you with the same exact software just like you.

Or try this https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-reset-AutoC...

Or... Here are the ways to open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:

@pendean Had a meeting with Autodesk support, but they did not resolve my issue during our session, but external keyboard helped. Only problem is that my intent is not to use external keyboard. Autodesk support said, they will come back with other ideas, so I will keep you updated if my issue with "my laptop SHIFT toggle  ORTHO ON/OFF not working" will be resolved!

If your keyboard is a PS/2 type, then its driver is the problem. Unless you can install an older version of a PS/2 driver, which I have not found, you are out of luck. Or you could edit the PS/2 driver if you know what to do. I am using AutoCAD 2022. Windows Home 11.

I tried the tempoverride command, but it doesn't work when I press the left shift key. It works when you press both shift keys.🤣

Shift key does not capitalize letters.  Shift key does lowercase letters when caps lock is on.  Worked fine yesterday.  This morning it started to not work.

Did you restart your PC yet?

Ask your IT person about it?

Swap out/change to a wired keyboard to rule out hardware issues yet?

I’m also having trouble with Shift key-based Ortho mode not working properly on my Lenovo laptop.

Of course, the TEMPOVERRIDE setting is set to 1. When I assign Ortho mode to a combination of Shift and another key using the CUI key settings, it works fine. It used to work with an external keyboard as well, but as of July 2, 2025, it suddenly stopped working.

As you mentioned, pressing both Shift keys on the laptop’s built-in keyboard sometimes activates Ortho mode. However, it's unstable—it works sometimes and doesn't at other times.
