Drawing is somehow Xrefed into itself

I am currently working on a drawing and just relaized that it is somehow Xrefed into itself and I am unable to detach it.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Apologizes, I have not had the chance to attempt the method in your last reply.  I did however get a free second to try the copy/paste method and the Xref did in fact disappear.  This did not happen when I attempted the WBLOCK method twice earlier when first suggested by Alfred.  That being said,  I would still like find a more viable solution to this problem, so I will attempt your suggestions in last post when I get a free moment and let you know if it was successful.  Appreciate all the help.

Deatach all the other XREFs then erase eveything. If the XREF in question is still not able to be detached, use Ctrl+A to see if you get multiple instances of that XREF.

I'm trying to find out if there are multiple instances that cannot be seen for some reason. I didn't say to detach. Just check to see if there are multiple instances, if it is not visible. If there are then erase them and you will be able to detach afterwards.

Understood, but still no visible attributes.

Maybe it is not visible, that's what I'm trying to determine.

Let me try to explain it another way.

Detach all of the other XREFs.

Make sure all layers are on and thawed.

Delete everything visible. Select using a window or crossing window.

Use Ctrl+A to select everything that is left (not visible).

If there are multiple instances of the XREF in the selection set, delete them.

You should now be able to detach it.

And to add to that, the command DBLIST will list everything in the drawing, including invisible entities.

Once you think everything has been erased, run the command DBLIST and take a look.

DBList is a good one. I've always used Ctrl+A and the properties box to find out what is left.

Did the DBlist, nothing left, still cannot detach.

Was curious, and did the Ctrl+A then Props. It works too.
Good to know also 🙂

;;; make invisible
(vla-put-visible (vlax-ename->vla-object (car (entsel))) :vlax-false)

How about if you purge that "empty" drawing.

Hi,

>> Use Ctrl+A to select everything that is left (not visible).

Just to add: <CTRL><A> only selects objects in the current space, so if you are in modelspace, but the XRef is attached to the paperspace of any layout <CTRL><A> would not select it.

Good point. I was assuming the XREF of a building would be in model space. It could have been inserted (scaled down) as a keyplan in paperspace.

Congrats @Anonymous - I think this is the biggest mystery on the forums I've seen in years.

It's a mystery because we don't have a file. We all are guessing.

And I sincerely appreciate all the help and I wish I could upload the drawing but given the sensitvity, I am unable to do so.  That being said given my experience along with all of you fine gentlemen,  we would have most certainly solved this already if it was a semi "normal" problem. But, thanks again.

Couldn't you upload it without the sensitive information? Say that "empty" file that the XREF cannot be detached from.
