I am currently working on a drawing and just relaized that it is somehow Xrefed into itself and I am unable to detach it.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

That's never an option: can you post that DWG file here?

Are you saying that because you see the name of the current drawing in the External Referenced palette?

Hi,

when you close the drawing, then use Windows Explorer to rename the drawing (so the name is different to which the XREF is pointing to) what happens then when you now open the renamed drawing?

Screenshots? Anything?

We can't really do much without some more information.

If not, can you revert back to a backup copy of this DWG, before this magical act occurred?

When renaming the drawing and then reopening the program asks me to update the location of the xref.

Hi,

>> And detaching is no longer an option.

Why, what happens when you try it?

Have you also tried command _CLASSICXREF to detach that file?

At least create a new drawing, save it with the old/previous name and if AutoCAD asks to update the XRef-path ... show this new file. That brings you to a stable state.

Hi,

The dialog of _CLASSICXREF does not have any pull down menu's. So what are you speaking about when you say "Just did"?

yes, I know.  I was referring to the regular xref panel.  in the classicxref panel the detach button is also grayed out.

Have you run ._AUDIT?
Have you tried ._RECOVER?
What is DWGCHECK set to?
Was this DWG file edited in a non-Autodesk application?

Hi,

have you tried my suggestions with renaming the file?

What I see in your screenshot is that you opened the file "XRef - Building.dwg" and a XRef is placed with the same name.

So if you

  • rename your drawing to "Building.dwg"
  • create a new (empty) drawing "XRef - Building.dwg" (save and close it)
  • open "Building.dwg"

..now you should have the option to detacth "XRef - Building.dwg" (I hope)
