Variants Lister options: Presentation export   As an industrial designer I use Alias not only for the modelling but also to present the results thanks to the great Variants Lister and the option to set a delay between the switch from Variant to Variant. This creates a nice animation like presentation.   The downside of this is that one is bound to carrying a Laptop where Alias needs to be started and  a "heavy" WIre file opened, then the Variants Lister started and presented.   One improvement of this limitation is to incorporate a screengrab tool into Alias (like the is already one from Autodesk).     By choosing Image File Type, the active Variants Group is being played at the desired speed and a video screengrab of the active window is exported as a suitable video format. Later that video can be saved to a mobile device and a presentation can be played/paused to better explain certain details during a presentation.   Would be perfect to have later a dedicated Autodesk Alias App for a mobile device, where all variants are seen as Thumbnails and a presentation is easier played/paused, or easier switched between variants.     Tubular Offset Tool improvement: This would help to better define the length of a tubular offset. Having as well a "Cap end" as option would help to create easier grooves from end to end.     What do you think about these suggestions?   Thank you in advance.   Best regards, Stefan   Show More

I initially like to use create VR as a quick ideation tool to develop proportions and form without worrying about surface or curve quality. However, after the rough model I like to go back over it and rebuild it and refine it with a bit more precision. The inability to adjust transparency and lock the layer makes it more difficult to rebuild curves and surfaces without having to constantly turn on and off the visibility of each previous layer. So... I suggest....   - The addition of an "opacity" or "transparency" adjustment option for each layer.   - Making an option to lock each layer.    - Being able to name the layers would be helpful as well.   - Side note, it would be nice to have a preview FBX image for each file under the add geometry folder.   - Also the ability to snap an object to a X, Y, or Z plane and move an object constrained to X, Y, or Z would be a great addition too   Thanks, Scott     Show More

Allow the setting of the min.max values for the geometry mapping area via a couple interactive on-screen cross-hairs to define the bounding rectangle. The markers should be able to snap to curves, grids and points like any other geometry. Show More

Hi Alias team,   Why not add a RMB context menu to Query Edit to bring up a list of history items relating to that object. You could then select a history item from the list, which would open its corresponding options window, or suspend/resume history on individual items in the list; basically adding some of the features of History View to Query Edit.   Regards,   Dan Show More

A locator that shows the spacing between CVs maybe with a gradient scale of color (sort of like the curve evaluation shader but applied on hulls: the more a hull is long the more of some color it will get).. so that is easy to nicely space CVs between eachother in a constant accelerating way.   I am not quite sure is that useful but sometime I wish I had it   Show More

recording the movements of edited CVs (Direct Modeling) in a surface with history.   Suppose I have Skin surface with Proportional Crown driven from two curves for each edge. Would be nice to be able to direct model the crown CVs without loosing the history that keeps the Skin Srf attached to the curves. Alias could keep the one history as it is now, but then apply a parallel history for edited CVs afterwards. Is not going to be heavy cus would just be a set of vectors for each CVs moved.   In the example above would be useful because even if the curves are tangent to other curves that drive another Skin Surface, it is not for sure that the Crown CV will be in tangency too.. with the edited CV recorded movements, I could modify that CV and still be able to keep alive the history of the Skin tool that allows me to control the overall Crown and so on.    An option could then be set to restore the default position of every CVs getting rid of the movements applied to the CVs.   This workflow was used in solidThinking and I found it to be a very useful tool that allows to keep History alive even when Direct Modeling without complicating too much the things or making a too heavy history.     Thanks Show More

Currently, the environment ground plane is excluded from the ambient occlusion calcualtion. You can create a pllane under your model to create accurate shadows, but then you lose features like ground reflections in your screen grabs.   When computing AO, there could be chackbox that says "Include Ground Plane" which would create acurate shadows for rendering.   Alterantively, a "ground plane shader type" could be included so that you can have multiple ground planes with pre-rendered shadows in the scene (for differnt models or product configurations within a stage). Have an option within the Zero Transforms tool to just zero some of the transform elements. For instance, zero the position, but not the rotation or the scale. Show More
