I think it would be useful to have the compress file option on the "Save file" dialogue instead of having to open the 3ds max options every time I want to change this.   There are plenty other options that could be included here such as: - Archive - Default save as 3ds max version - Default save as compression (or not)     Show More

Add the net render checkbox back in the gui.   It won't break anything by doing so, since you can keep the current functionality in the drop down menu, but it will help people when this frustrating bug is happening, that the Flag is set to "rendUseNet=TRUE" somehow without the users knowledge. It happened to me from time to time, and I guess it must be as frustrating for others as it is for me if this occurs.  Sometimes I feel like I spend more time on troubleshooting than on the creative side!     This should be pretty low hanging fruit for the devs if you want to cross off an implemented idea from the list! 😉     Show More

Hello, I would like to request you to please introduce freeze transform and set to zero program into 3Ds Max.   I am working on 3D max to Unity workflow. Main problem i faced is coordinate system. After my work done i always apply reset X form modifier and convert it to Poly then i export to FBX and open it in Unity. Problem start from that point. My UV's always get flipped.  Then i have to poen same FBX into Maya and have to apply freeze transform and set to zero and once again convert into FBX. Finally that FBX works fine in Unity.... I am tired with this problem...   Once again request you to please introduce freeze transform and set to zero program into 3Ds Max.   Thank you. Show More

Having to to change you attention (and alt tabbing) to a video or a PDF tutorial makes us lose concentration and productivity, therefore we learn less. That's why I'm proposing a creation of a tool that allow you to create a tutorial inside the software. This tool will allow you to highlight, record mouse movement or keyboard strokes. With those things in mind, the tutorial will show for the learners where exactly is every step of the tutorial and what he should do. As well as a video tutorial in each tool when you mouse over a specific tool. One very annoying trait in Max is that you cannot add a material into the scene if there is already a material on an object in the scene with the same name. When you attempt to apply a material with a duplicate name, Max prompts you to either Replace it or Rename the material.   This is really bad for several reasons. Why? Because this is just an arbitrary convention in the UI (probably a relic of early versions of Max that only allowed unique names). The actual Max scene does allow identically named materials if applied in other ways (via MAXScript, opening a scene that already has the duplicates, or duplicates buried in Multi/Sub-Object materials).   As soon as you have a material applied, you can change it to the name of an existing scene material and Max won't complain. It's only when adding a material.   Since it is technically allowed there is no reason to try to enforce it when adding to the scene. If there are good reasons to keep the prompt when applying duplicates, then the prompt needs to be updated so that it has a third option to use duplicate names in the scene.   You may ask why one would want duplicate names anyway? One reason is that your materials may be representations of materials in some other system or dataset (for example, materials in a game engine). If you want to utilize the same material one several objects but on some of them to have different texture transformation in their BitmapTexturemaps (perhaps chanign their tiling value or rotations) then you can make copies of the material and change the transforms in the texture--but you need to keep the same names so that when sending back to your game it knows they are still the same material. In many cases, multiple  UV channels are used for a multitude of reasons.  xView Overlapped UV Faces is a great tol, but not necessarily helpful as the most important overlaping risk, especially for game art,  is hidden in UV Channel 2, typically used for lightmaps etc.   Provide a choice of which UV channel to check.   Show More
