stop constantly regenerating graphics

stop constantly regenerating graphics

This is one of the most frustrating things in Revit. I'm not a software developer, so maybe I'm missing something — but the constant regeneration of graphics during basic tasks is maddening. Drawing lines, adding dimensions, switching a view template to "None", placing a section line — these are simple actions, and yet Revit freezes to regenerate graphics even when nothing is being modeled.
It’s especially painful when working with large linked models. Snapping to geometry in a linked STEP or SAT file requires the patience of a saint. And no, accelerated graphics does not help. It is pretty useless when you need to get things done fast, constantly activating each view and each time something changes. In fact it’s unusable in these scenarios.

Placing Sections in tall buildings is quite painful.

If I only want it to cover a single floor it still cuts through the entire building and takes forever to unfreeze itself.

@Scott_D_    I have yet to be able to figure out when a section or elevation is cut/set why one time it will go super far up and/or down, and other times it only cuts through a short area... sometimes too short.   If we could have a way to specify an upper and lower level of a section cut or elevation within the properties before and after we cut it that would be extremely helpful!   Defaults could be Base: Current Level and Upper: Building Story Level Above.

@Karol_Piroska, have you tried the various settings shown below to help?   This is typically my setup.  I don't think I'm dealing with as large of models as perhaps you are, so maybe I'm not seeing the same effects as you.  I'm also not dealing with STEP or SAT coordination models, so perhaps that makes a large difference as well.  Interesting that the Accelerated Graphics mode isn't helping you, I've heard nothing but good things about it.  Just offering these hopefully helpful tips.

I can sort of understand when you create a brand new Section but when I copy and paste an existing Section it forgets the View Template and settings and just does whatever it fancies depending on which way the wind is blowing.

If I have 10 classrooms next to each other and I want to create 10 exactly identical Sections for the teaching wall in each room that are all a direct copy of the first one I configured with different electrical circuit numbers etc it could be a more streamlined workflow.

The current method is all brute force and elbow grease.

thank you @Ric_Weber , I tried it all over the years. Same story - the CPU and disk feels lonely, GPU can go on forever vacation, RAM is at room temperature, but Revit pretends that the whole world resources would not be enough. My only hope is that AI will help to build a better version or a brand new software, hopefully near future.

Hi, i was in same situation >_<

I hope you solved the problem.

If not, please consider to disable modules from the Add-In Manager, restart Revit and try if works. For me it solved.
