Sloped Drainage Networks: Multiple Errors

Sloped Drainage Networks: Multiple Errors

The problem concerns drainage networks, which are therefore drawn with slopes.

When a 45° tee is placed on a sloped network, Revit attempts to draw the pipe at a 45° angle but without considering the slope, which causes errors and impossible connections.

In the screenshot, in a section view, when zooming in, you can see that the upper pipe is not parallel and is not connected.

In general, any modification becomes impossible as soon as a slope is present in a network. Connections break, fittings disappear, slopes are altered, etc.

There is a huge amount of work needed to make the drainage system functional because, as it stands, it is completely unusable.

I won’t list everything, but here are a few other inconsistencies:

  • Revit does not recognize or use double 45° elbows.
  • It uses concentric reducers instead of eccentric reducers.
  • It has no understanding of slope direction and randomly places tees in one direction or another.
  • Since it doesn’t understand this, it also doesn’t know when to go down or up.
  • It never inherits elevation (the option is always unchecked by default), leading to incorrect results.
  • It almost never manages to create branches when the pipe arrives at a 45° angle.
  • It cannot rotate a 45° elbow and always uses a 90° elbow + a 45° elbow,
  • etc.
