Shared instance parameters - only show the ones in selected family in property bar

When a family has shared instance parameters, I can see and adjust them in the properties bar when I select the family.  I would expect it only shows me shared parameters of the selected family. 

But Revit shows me ALL shared parameters of the same category (e.g. mechanical equipment). I have a thread about this. So for example, if I select a fan, the properties bar shows me the instance shared parameter of that fan, but also the ones for all boilers, AHU, radiators etc. This creates a very busy properties bar. Those shared parameters (that don't exist in the selected family) also can be edited, which leads to even more confusion.

So please, only show the shared instance parameters of the selected family.

Revit only shows additional shared parameters when a family is selected if those shared parameters are Project Parameters. If the shared parameters are loaded into the family only, then only those parameters and any Project parameters of the same category will appear when a family is selected. For this reason I rely on Project parameters as little as possible.

I think you are right. i double-checked and it looks like the ones that bothered me indeed are project parameters. So my request may be meaningless....... I don't see an option to delete it, though. 

I guess it is hard to tell Revit what project parameters would belong to what family since that contradicts the meaning of project parameter.

Project parameters are based on category, so if you create a project parameter called Hot Water Minimum Flow and link it to the Mechanical Equipment category, it will be present even if you select a Fan. This really irritates engineers. I recommend putting all your schedulable parameters in the families. 

Autodesk, if you're listening, it would be really nice if the sequence of parameters as saved in the family was consistent in the project environment. I've also found that the sequence that parameters are listed when the family is selected in the project environment is based up the sequence they were imported into the project, usually due to inserting a family that includes them.  So that means if my schedules have parameters in differing sequence, then the top>bottom / left>right reading nature of parameters and schedules is lost. I'd love to be able to point my engineers to selecting a family then all their scheduling parameters were in sequence top to bottom in Properties.

Maybe this item on the Revit Public Roadmap will also help, and also links to this Idea. As more categories are added, the parameters can get more granular. I understand what you mean about project parameters versus shared parameters.

I'm not quite sure more categories will help since that would either still not be enough, or would create very many categories. Boiler, Fan, radiator, unit heater, AHU, coil, control parts..... it would need endless categories. 

Maybe next time I use project parameters (I mainly use them to calculate things in schedules), I think of creative ways to make it shared parameters.
