The filter more add-in by Juan Osborne sounds like it does what you are looking for. While it's not free, it is only a whopping 2$ and it does work really well.
I almost ask for the same, and then came to read this... There are several Ideas referring to enhance somehow the filters. I think that it would be a good improvement for Revit not to depend in an Add In for this matters!
