Scope Box extents - better control

Scope Box extents - better control

Please, please can we have better control over scope box extents? Once created a scope box has no edit sketch ability and won't respond to the align command. Basically you have nothing but very inaccurate dragging of control points with NO snapping.

We really need much better control. Even just being able to use align the top, bottom & sides of a scope box would give us the control we need.

At the moment, if you want to set your scope box extents 150mm below ground floor level (for example) you can only do this by creating a new scope box in a ground floor plan and then moving it 150mm down in a section, elev or 3D view, because otherwise you are just guessing.

Hi mmeinert

Great idea to schedule them and drive them using reference levels and schedule.

However when AutoDesk made it so that we can type the W x L x H would be helpfull to start with.

But connecting them with your idea, using reference levels and schedule would be something else.

Who knows in the nearby future…….

@brunelli.b @pousty @andrea_kohl @jimmi.opperud  This request is a must, but this request could be encapsulated by an even broader and powerful idea:

Scope Box Origin and XYZ Axies

There should be more functionality when it comes to scope boxes, particularly the ability to use the Align tool as well as measure to the edges of scope boxes. This way buildings that appear at an angle in a regular, project north plan view would be easier to align the scope box's angle to.

Also, there should be functionality to treat the edges of scope boxes and matchlines like reference planes such that scope box overlap of matchlines can be made consistent across a project without having to approximate sizing.

Lastly, scope boxes should be made editable but stay rectangular overall such that clicking on one edge of the scope box in the editor allows you to set the length and width (and height in elevation view) as with anything else where dimensions can be input.

How this might look, using reference planes to "fake it":

Agree! Seems odd you cannot at least manually input / modify dimensions (there is a height dimension option during creation). Also seems odd you cannot align to grids, etc. Dragging is so clumsy. I'm sure there are reasons for this that we don't understand, but nonetheless, +1 for greater control.

It's hard to produce professional looking documents when you can't be as precise with your graphical design as with your architecture. Drawings jumping around all over the pages when flicking through a PDF is a sure sign the mess has ben created using Revit.

Hi,

Autodesk support gave me a "trick" for snapping to scope box .  Trick :

- Create 2 reference planes

- Under "Extents - Scope box", use your scope box

- Under "Extents - Scope box", use "None"

- Now you can snap your scope box using the ends of your reference planes. See attached image for rotation, for instance.

However, we should be able to snap the scope box "by default". I vote for your idea.

Sincerely.

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

Only workaround I have it is to copy the scope box (to maintain orientation), enlarge the copy so that it covers the scope, apply this copied scope box to a view. Now the original scope box is perfectly horisontal, sketch a line as reference and use it for rotation. Now, delete the temporary view and copied scope box. The reason this must be done as you cannot snap to the scope box extents

Hi. I know. The wheels of AutoDesk turn really, really slow. Unbelievably. I have no more hope fot this function ever to be implemented. ☹

All best.

Could we get all items to be able to behave like detail lines? Scope boxes, section boxes, matchlines, ect. Any item in Revit should have handles, be able to be aligned, rotated and copied, ect.

  • Is it really not possible to align two Scope Boxes together?

@RECArchiTypical Autodesk, this is a work-around, and doesn't address the issue that is being brought up. I don't want to create a reference plane to change the location of a scope box. You can only move or rotate both of the elements, so the cropping is still an issue. I want to draw a box just like when using detail lines or a generic model-in-place extrusion, and check the green check mark.
