Revit 2021 - Issue Dimensioning Through Linked Models

Revit 2021 - Issue Dimensioning Through Linked Models

I have been noticing an issue with linked models in Revit 2021 in regards to dimensioning. When trying to dimension to the core centerline of a wall through a linked model, that dimension snap point simply does not exist. The only option is to select the whole wall assembly centerline, which, depending on the wall assembly, does not always correspond to the core centerline. I have tried to override numerous settings, tabbing through to a core centerline, and just about anything else I can think of but have yet to find a solution.

We prefer to do our dimensioning in a "central file" after linking every building into this main file. It is still currently possible to dimension to the core centerline in each main building file. The main issue revolves around the linked model.

It would be great to get some information on a solution and/or passing this on to be looked into as a bug with the current Revit 2021 version.

Thanks,

ML

When dimesionning to a wall in a project file, we can snap to wall center, face of wall/layer and center of core.

However, if the wall is part of a linked file, Revit does not recognize "center of core".

This affect the productivity and QA, when we need to subdivide the model data for number of reasons (project size, complexity, file size, stakeholder, etc)

Revit is incapable of dimensioning to the center of core of linked walls. This is a serious inconvenience. This a feature that is sorely needed. See this related idea I posted about Revit's other shortcomings with dimensioning links. Centerline Pattern When Dimensioning to Link

Hi, @Anonymous ,

It looks like this issue is not unique to Revit 2021...here are some similar Ideas:

I can combine the three threads and votes if you like.

Thank you for your submission!
