Recent Files Dashboard Needs Refinement

Recent Files Dashboard Needs Refinement

The Recent Files dashboards could use some refinement.  Here are a few ideas to make it more functional:

  1. Allow users to change the views.  Instead of thumbnails that take up a lot of space, allow users to change to a list or detailed list (with last save date) similar to how the BIM360 list is displayed.  Possibly allow users to select previous model versions.
  2. Allow users to control how many recent projects are displayed, like in AutoCAD and MS Office apps.
  3. Allow users to edit which projects are displayed more easily than editing the ini file.  I have sample projects that display that I will never use.  Maybe a right-click and "remove from list".   I'm thinking something similar to the AutoCAD Places list.
  4. Allow users to pin projects so that they don't scroll off the screen.
  5. Allow users to control whether the Families list is displayed.  Maybe the interface is tabbed between Projects and Families or a "menu" item on the left side pane.

Morning team,

Currently, we have recent files which only show just the file. But not helpful if it is involved in multiple projects, development and so on.

My suggestion is to use metadata which the Revit projects already have built-in like Project Code and Project Name.

The second Pin List Doesn't work as it should.

Why just make a separate section WIP project list, so we are possible to Pin the projects and show the Project Code and project Name?

Kind regards,

Robertas

I suggest that Autodesk adds recent file management functionality to the Revit start screen. A few ideas would be...

Search function by the name of the file. A separate search bar for Models and Families.

Ability to pin commonly used files to the front of the list. Similar to how AutoCAD works.

Ability to delete files that are not necessary or not needed. The clear function for all recent files with options to clear all or just clear unpinned files.

Several of these items in this idea have been implemented which is great!  But there are still these few tweaks left that I would highly encourage Autodesk to implement as well.

I would add to this list the ability to see and pin template files in the recent files list as well.

I like the thought of having tabs for projects vs. families, and perhaps add one for pinned only (or a filter option for that) and perhaps one for template files.

Just a thought.

The ability to control what shows up in the recent files list would be great.  I work in an environment where the server drive letter changes based on location.  When Revit can't find recent files in their expected location, it really slows startup time as well as freezes up the file menu when you click it from within a project.  Revit should automatically remove recent files it cannot find.  We should also be able to remove such files without having to manually edit the ini file.
