Probably the most used function in Revit and one of the least improved is the OPEN / SAVE / SYNCHRONISE / RELINQUISH commands. I would like to suggest a few refinements that could enhance their function for most users:
- RVT files should be set to Workshared and Saved as a Central file if they are saved to a remote/cloud/network folder, and automatically saved as a Local file if they are opened/moved from there and then by default saved locally
- OPEN dialog 'detach' should explain that it will create a Non-Central file when saved
- Revit should hide unused places in the file open / insert dialogues, eg. A360 / history / my network / favourites
- Add an option to save all open views upon reopen
- SYNCHRONISE should have a RELINQUISH function or at least an option -- this two-step 'Synchronise then Relinquish' is redundant and counterintuitive, even the wording of the dialog "Revit cannot relinquish the changed element(s) because the project has not been saved." defies logic, since SAVE does not allow RELINQUISH to operate; users frequently forget or don't understand the need for relinquishing after synchronising, and it should not be necessary
- Permission Granted dialog should automatically Reload Latest if required to work on the 'Granted' elements
- Timed Automatic SAVE and Timed Automatic SYNC should be an option
- Batch AUDIT and UPGRADING projects and families should be a basic file function
- RECOVERY should be accessible from file OPEN dialog, not only for files that are already open
