Would be amazing if the Revit App icon was updated to show the year. This would be nice change for the icon that sits on the taskbar. For example: Regular "R" logo, with a little 22' in the bottom right corner.
Autodesk should change the Revit icon to show the version year in place of "RVT" for easier use for people who have to use different versions. I had to create my own for easier use for working on multiple projects in different versions of Revit. An example of what it can look like can be seen below.
Currently, all revit versions share the same .rvt file extension, though the files are not backwards compatible, and initiate upgrade process if opened in a later version. This makes it impossible to tell which version to open the model in, and opening every version of revit is lengthy process.
It seems most logical to have different file extensions, such as .rvt23, .rvt24, .rvt25, which correlate with the different versions.
Additionally these different versions would have a different program icon such as the example shown in the attached image.
@Andres_Jimenez : Different icons with year numbers seems like a great idea. But different file extension seems a bit too much. You would also need different extensions for .rfa, rft, rte, pat files. It's just too much to maintain so many file extensions.
cons in Revit versions after 2018 are less visually appealing than those in Revit 2018. Additionally, the icons in Revit 2018 are easier to recognize. It is hoped that in subsequent versions, an option will be added to allow users to choose between using "modern" icons or classic icons.
I'm not totally sure about "classic" icons, but I think icons that reflect the version year would be great, that way I don't manually have to go and switch out all the icons.
A lot of our staff have projects in different versions of revit. If you pin the versions to the taskbar they all have the same logo and just say revit. There is no way of telling which version is being opened. Can Autodesk as a minimum note the year version of revit and ideally go back to having a different logo for each year?
@ajoss, please remember to search before putting in a new idea. Difference here is you are calling it a logo, but most people call it an icon, so that's probably why you didn't find it.
@Ric_Weber if this is a topic relating to 2017 why is this minor thing still and issue? I was more commenting about the rollerover text. We do not have hours to search forums suggesting fixes for issues Autodesk cause. The rollover did mention the version years ago. Now it stopped this is compounded by the Logo being the same in recent years. Instead of telling paying users off perhaps the issues could be fixed instead?

@ajoss, we have been asking for an indicator in the icon/logo for a long time and unfortunately Autodesk is not hearing us.
Didn't take me hours of searching. Like I said, it was a matter of which word(s) to choose for the search... that just comes with lots of time in this forum (sad amount of time really if I think about it too much).
In regards to the rollover text (hover over?) I'm not sure if that is a Windows setting or what, but when I hover over the shortcuts in my task bar I get the version number. As you can see, I have created a custom icon for each of the Revit versions that we use. As far as "why is this still an issue"... we'd all like to know that.
