Plan Regions in a Section view - Section Region

Plan Regions in a Section view - Section Region

Create a Section Region function where you can create a rectangle region in a section that has a different Far Clip Offset than the rest of the section. Sometimes I need to see things far away on the left and right portions of a section but I don't want to see the far away things in the middle of the section. Right now we can split a section and the view shows the plan cut in different locations but the whole section view still has the same Far Clip Offset.

It would be great to have a "Section Region" tool that operates exactly how the "Plan Region" works on floor plans.

The tool would have an independent cut and depth relative to the parent section. This will enable partial cutaways in sections.

Can you do a 3D Section Box and change the view orientation in the View Cube (upper right corner of the window)? Click on a View Cube face for East , West , etc then save the view using proper name.

I'm not sure how a 3d section box will allow for more flexibility for changing depths in a view that has a standard section depth and cut, but allows for region alterations to that depth and cut location.

For example, let's assume a building section is drawn at a particular location. The building overall section does not need to jog: it located exactly where it needs to be to show the most amount of information and relationship between elements. How, let's assume that for a small region of the section in the ceiling plenum, there is a duct being cut diagonally that we want to show cut plumb. With a section region, a small region of the parent section can be altered: cut plan and depth.

The software code is already written for the plan region and a port to the section views might not be too difficult, as the function already exists in the software.

Hello Autodesk

" Plan region " functionality for section views would be amazing.

This would be very useful at times

It would be nice to allow the section views to have "section regions" much akin to the plan region tool. Revit offeres the far clip offset within the section views, which is a great tool. But, sometimes there isn't a good way to parse out objects in the background other than to override their graphics and turn them white. Being able to draw a region in a section that has its own far clip offset could help fine tune users' graphic representations of sections.

Should be able to use in elevations too!!!

would also be good if you cut a section and revit was able to create a 2d plan view using the levels of the crop view 🙂

Not sure I follow what you mean. You can create multiple plan views by going to the View tab and clicking Floor or Structural plan then uncheck the hide duplicates box and check all the levels that you need a plan view for.
Do you mean that it would be cool if the created plan view crop region would adhere to the far clip offset settings of the section its created from? That would be cool but usually you cut a section in a plan anyways so that seems backwards to me. You could probably find a way to get dynamo to do your suggestion but I bet it'd be hard to do.
