New form of tagging elements - QR codes

New form of tagging elements - QR codes

The idea is easy to implement. QR codes are overtaking the world!

Instead of old boring text tags, we should have the ability to create modular, scalable, and dynamic QR tags inside Revit.

QR codes should be

This would be beneficial for many people, as you can track, install, order, go to a website, and many many many many other things.

Attached is an example for editing the "QR Label" and adding parameters:

and they would not even have to invent a new icon since there's that revit id functionality already.

Despite its place in the digital/information world, Revit/Autodesk still acts as if the final product is merely printed on a piece of paper. It is completely neglecting the possibilities that come from things like QR codes, hyperlinks, etc when reading drawings on a screen, which is the case, at minimum, 90% of the time now. They are still largely interaction-less images.

The one exception is hyperlinks on sections/elevations. Which is frustrating, because the functionality is clearly there. But they haven't built on it in years.

I think one issue with this is you need significant space for and around a QR code. You would want to put this in a schedule, but doing so would make the schedules pretty large as each line would need to be an inch or so at a minimum.

Instead, I would place a QR code for a set of plans or a specific sheet, and from there you can follow hyperlinks on schedules.
