Multiple Feed-Thru Lug Connections

The new feature in 2020 that allow for feed-thru lugs on electrical equipment is outstanding. However, there are times when you may need to connect multiple items to a single set of feed-thru lugs. Right now, Revit does not allow this so we have to go back to the old ways of faking it. Would we great if this ability could be added.

Hi @KLH-BJOHNSON - thanks for posting and allowing for some clarification here.

In essence a Feed Through Lug circuit is like any other circuit... add as many things to the circuit as you like.

 

The recording was made in 2020.1, but it is equally applicable to 2020.

 

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your request in some way.. if so, please clarify.

@Martin__Schmid The solution you posted works from the perspective of loads flowing correctly to what's upstream of the feed-thru equipment (panel A in the video), but it does not work for the load calculated on the circuit to each piece of feed-thru equipment individually (panels B and C in the video). In your example, if you look at the circuit properties for panels B and C, the Apparent Load that Revit calculates for both panels B and C is the same. It's the total apparent load of the circuit. This isn't accurate, the apparent load on the conductors from panel A to B and panel A to C should only be the apparent load calculated individually on B and C. It's easy to get around this with Revit's panel schedules, but if you try and display the Apparent Load parameter of the circuit or do any calculations based on it, it's wrong. The solution that comes to mind is to disconnect C from the circuit and create its own circuit to panel A's feed-thru lugs, but the software doesn't support this. I may be looking at this wrong... please correct me if that's the case.

Hi @KLH-BJOHNSON  - thanks for following up on this.

 

Revit presently does not know what the physical topology of the circuit is... this is true for all circuits, not just panels on feed through lugs...  some examples are provided below. 

 

I think what you're saying is you have an expectation to be able to analyze conductors independently as shown by the color coding in in cases (1) and (4) (or even (2) and (5)).. however, at present, all circuits in Revit as simply defined to be the total of all load on the circuit, as shown in (3) and (6).

That seems like a reasonable request, but quite distinct from the original title and description in this idea.  I'm not readily aware of another similar request, so I'd suggest creating a new one capturing the need.
