Make Type Mark behavior consistent when duplicating!

Make Type Mark behavior consistent when duplicating!

Not entirely sure if this is a bug or a feature, but the behavior of the "type mark" parameter when duplicating a component is different in different components. This happens in all recent Revit versions.

Please make it consistent! (I would personally prefer it if it was cleared when duplicating.) Possibly add an option somewhere where you can select which behavior you want.

I haven't tested every component, but I have tested these:

Walls, Foundations, Floors: Type Mark stays the same.

Columns, Beams, Generic, Structural Connections: Type Mark is cleared.

Windows, Doors: Type Mark counts up one.

I've also noticed that, with a generic model family, when you load the .rfa into another revit project, the type mark is cleared. Which is annoying. It's a type property and should just stay set.

In our firm's work we often get a warning about a duplicated type mark, but it is our intent to have both items have a common type mark.  Clearing it automatically would be a huge issue for us.

@SarahS If you require different element types to have the same type mark, what is the reason for using type mark to begin with? Why not a different parameter?

@j_barish Yes, the behavior here is also inconsistent. Some components have their type mark cleared when copied, others are kept. This should also be consistent, and ideally an option to choose which behavior you want.

@TSwayze - I noticed it with the Arch version of various electrical, fire, and security ceiling devices as well as other architectural specialties, like Fire Extinguisher Cabinets (FEC) -
That's good to know what categories overwrite their type marks. (Would be nice if ADSK actually published this information somewhere in the help files.
