We need to be able to directly import 2D PDFs into the model space so we can compare drawings against the model or sheets. this would really help us to action markups, check sub-contractors designs etc. The current workaround is of importing the PDF into AutoCAD and linking the DWG is very unsatisfactory!
We've completed our review of this idea. After investigating the effort required to implement this request, we unable to add it to our roadmap at this time due to other priorities. @kh_jea oh please - there are a tonne of times when a 2D PDF needs to be included on a sheet. "BIM is 3D, not 2D" ignores the fact that architects make drawing sets, and not models.

This morning I had to assist e team mate bring in a PDF as an underlay to create a new model. The model could have been created from scratch, but would have been tedious and time consuming. Lo and behold - no option to link a PDF in the Insert tab!
To make a long story short, the PDF was converted into a JPG and then linked in to Revit. Workable - yes. Efficient - no. Convenient - h*** NO!
Please give us the capability to link a PDF as an underlay. Please.
You can also use a PDF to DWG converter. This can be expensive software but considering how often we need to take a PDF to CAD, it's definitely worth it.
@kpierce there are many reasons to need a PDF in a drawing set, not just dwgs. lots of times you want to add consultant drawings (like a survey) or add blocks of text or stats from a PDF. ArchiCAD figured this out 10+ years ago.
