This is a great idea. On the down side, it would add considerable graphics resources to displaying this information (for example, Archicad has a very slow dialog that displays linestyles); the solution for that would be include Line Styles/Line Patterns in the purge command, to slim files with 10,000s of unused types.
It would be much quicker, easier and more convenient if, during picking line to draw, we could have a preview next to it to see how it actually look like.
For now, I have to go to line patterns and then go back to line styles and have a look at which pattern is assigned to lifestyle.
There are so many lines patterns to remember and even more difficult when the project is international with multilanguage naming.
Apologize if I multiply the idea but I could not find this topic
How legible is the addition of a preview bar beside the linestyles dropdown.
I find that every time I am moved to a new project, the linestyles will change. When I finally familiarise myself with said linestyles, I find that other users within the model will create additional variations without naming them accordingly. I find that when choosing the right linestyle I am clicking through a plethora before I find the right one.
My proposal is that beside the linestyle dropdown would be a preview with the corresponding detail line, its weight and its colour. Of course, this feature should have an option to toggle as I realise that a lot of people may be used to the current UI.
It would be similar to the UI in illustrator, refer to attachment below.
I have also created a very crude snip n paste of what I am thinking it would look within the UI.
1. Illustrator Preview Example
2. Preview Panel Beside Linetyle Dropdown
3. Linestyle doprdown menu and corresponding previews besides
I don't use lines that often... very rarely in-fact. I have detail components built for nearly everything I will ever need. I have detail components built for lines even. But when I do, this would be nice to be able to see a preview of the line.
