In most modern buildings, the electrical planning includes a lightning protection and earthing system. Unfortunately, the necessary families and functions for lightning protection are missing in Revit.
Since the complete lightning protection with all its components would be far too extensive, complex and detailed, I would like to have the basics (can also be extended later) on lightning protection and earthing added to Revit.
For the beginning the following is needed:
- A new model category: "Lightning Protection and Earthing System" + a new annotation category
- Two new system family "round wires" and "earthing strips", with the following properties:
- Freely Placeable / Editable in any view (floor plan, section view, elevation view, 3D, ...)
- Flexible / bendable (similar to SPLINE), no rigid parts (Maybe a drawing behavior similar to the existing families "beam" or "flexible pipe")
- Drawable in all directions
- Relatively tight bending radii possible
- Adjustable dimensions (diameter for wires and width/height for strips)
- Fittings for the system families: T-piece, cross piece and union piece
- Components: air-termination rod, air-termination conductor, earthing terminal, earth rod and test joint (families that can be connected directly to round wires)
When it comes to the implementation and you need precise and detailed information on how the lightning protection should/could be in Revit (Functionality, appearance, etc.), please contact me and I will describe it as detailed as possible.
