Lightning protection and earthing system in Revit

Lightning protection and earthing system in Revit

In most modern buildings, the electrical planning includes a lightning protection and earthing system. Unfortunately, the necessary families and functions for lightning protection are missing in Revit.

Since the complete lightning protection with all its components would be far too extensive, complex and detailed, I would like to have the basics (can also be extended later) on lightning protection and earthing added to Revit.

For the beginning the following is needed:

  • A new model category: "Lightning Protection and Earthing System" + a new annotation category
  • Two new system family "round wires" and "earthing strips", with the following properties:
    • Freely Placeable / Editable in any view (floor plan, section view, elevation view, 3D, ...)
    • Flexible / bendable (similar to SPLINE), no rigid parts (Maybe a drawing behavior similar to the existing families "beam" or "flexible pipe")
    • Drawable in all directions
    • Relatively tight bending radii possible
    • Adjustable dimensions (diameter for wires and width/height for strips)
  • Fittings for the system families: T-piece, cross piece and union piece
  • Components: air-termination rod, air-termination conductor, earthing terminal, earth rod and test joint (families that can be connected directly to round wires)

When it comes to the implementation and you need precise and detailed information on how the lightning protection should/could be in Revit (Functionality, appearance, etc.), please contact me and I will describe it as detailed as possible.

Hi dominikleuchter,

I am modelling in one project need lightning protection system, we designed by 2D before then import drawing to Revit model so we recognize its not good solution when architecture model has changed and we can not control the model and equipment.

Here I found the link show some thing how to implement but I can not found BIM manufacture of equipment.

Can you plz help by send me all family to create lightning bounding system?

Many Thanks!

Hey

On the move shows that you have a grounding device and lightning protection - where to download them from?

The family part of this issue is simple for me. What we need here is that the grounding system is defined in Revit. In this case, coordination with other systems will be easy. Otherwise, we have to produce both dwg and revit combination sheets.

Hello, is there any updates in Revit regarding this?
Recently started with revit and we have a project were we need to apply earthing rods, earting wires to every rod etc.
But i do not find any families, objects that is made for this use.

Want to "bump" this idea. Currently we have been using the category "Nurse Call Devices" for Lighting and Grounding "L&G" elements. This is so that we can turn them on/off under the Model Categories as most of the power stuff uses the Electrical Fixtures Model Category. L&G devices since they are typically shown on their own drawing. The main need here is a Model Category for Lightning and Grounding (or "Lightning Protection and Earthing Systems").
