Keyplans
Add functionality within Revit to produce a keyplan of a building on drawing title sheets. A view can only be placed on a single sheet and the workflow to create one using a legend isn't efficient.
Thanks for getting back to me, that doesn't help in this case. I need to produce a keyplan of a floorplan, so turning the whole floor layout into a keyplan and sketching lines sounds laborious.
The workaround I found was to export the floor plan to DWG then import the DWG into an annotation family so I could place that on multiple title sheets.
Some functionality for placing floor plan linework onto a legend/keyplan would have helped, going out to AutoCAD to bring back to Revit wasn't very efficient, but it was certainly a quick fix for this issue.
I usually just create a family that is a rough outline of the plan. Often we need to indicate blocks or areas of interest on the key plan so doing it as a family works well as we can simply create different types, one for each area of interest. Then as you place the family on your sheets you can select the type that is appropriate.
I understand that this is a pain point for you but personally I wouldn't want Autodesk to expend any energy on this when there are so many things that have been suboptimal for well over a decade now. The list is long and those things are a real pain to all of us on daily basis.
I do think there should be a better solution to keyplans. I'd like a live version of plans that you can copy like a legend, but that gets updated like a plan. Then, you can draw in 2D on it.
2D solutions take a long time to make and don't update. Creating a new small plan for each page is ridiculous.
Still, there are higher priority problems to fix, agreed.
Hmmm, I'm not convinced at all that this is a core product feature. It feels more like an add-on. Auto generating a keyplan is non-trivial. For example, on a complex building you'll probably wan to mark different parts of the keyplan, how will the software know which parts of the building need to be marked on the keyplan?
What about scale? If you took the literal outline of a really large commercial complex and then tried to make it into a scale-independent keyplan you'd find that many of the lines would become too small to be relevant.
IDEALLY, I would like to link a live plan that I can place on many sheet, into a symbol family. Quite utopia, yes.
I need the ability to highlight a room or building area that a family gives me, but I hate the current workflow of having to export the Revit as a CAD to trace it my family. It also is a pain if the building plan updates its shape.
You can easily use a plan as a keyplan but playing with line thicknesses and hiding elements. The main problem is that every page needs one, so it makes the whole project heavy for nothing. Some newbies in our office did this on a project behind my back and I was surprised by how much better and useful it was than I would`ve expected.
I get the impression this will be very useful for some and no use to others, but I certainly think there are enough people out there who can make very good use of such a feature.
Really what I'm requesting is the ability to put a view on a legend with the visibility graphics options available. Anything else can be done on top using linework.
I could make use of this on many projects, I know it would be a useful feature for others and I don't think it's in the realms of fantasy for such a feature to be added.
