View Region Breaks - Allow Both Directions

View Region Breaks - Allow Both Directions

There are times where the main content of an enlarged drawing may be far from column grids, but it is still desired to provide dimensions to the grid lines from this point. If one could "break" the views in both the left/right and top/bottom axis of the crop region frame, then it would be easy to crop in the column locations nearby to the primary content -- i.e. curtain wall jamb details, etc. See the attached image for reference. Also, it would be great if one could more easily modify the dimension text after the view has been broken. Often times, you break the view, and then you can no longer grab the dimension text to adjust its placement along the dimension string.

Why does this have to happen? If you have a dimension that spans over a view break but you wish to add a suffix, prefix etc you are unable to click on the dimension text to allow you to do this.

The only solution I have found is to un-crop the view - suffering the consequence of losing existing view breaks - and then recreate said view breaks.

In addition to the dimension example above. In the case of a detail view taken from a section view, sometimes one may wish to toggle between the cropped (and view broken) view and un-cropped view to allow them to see the contextual information. This is no possible without losing View Breaks.

This should be fixed or maybe you are able to turn off the crop region temporary. Like i mentioned in this topic.

If you dimension in a view and break the view, there is no way to move around the dimension after.
We have to position the dimension before breaking the view and that is annoying.

Thank you for the consideration

View breaks tend to have odd behavior in general. When placing Revision Clouds across boundaries you have to break them as well.

View breaks in detail callout views can be quite hit & miss when you have dimensions displaying across the split view. This makes dimensions hard to move or select.

This may just be a bug (2020.2.6), but having the ability to modify a dimension which is spanning across view breaks would be helpful and quite necessary with enlarged detail views.

This sounds a lot like a bug, I think it should be fixed in a future version

Yes, it is very annoying...

Use an Ordinate dimension type.

Thanks, I just tried general as well and it works fine too.
Maybe I should have double-checked this first 🙂

Ridiculous that this is still an issue or limitation in 2025.
