Generate 3d View from existing view

Generate 3d View from existing view

One of my absolute favorite Revit tools is the Selection box tool. Select multiple items in Revit, type BX and it opens your default 3d view cropped down to your selection.

The feature request I would submit is the ability to do this same process on any already created view. Even better would be to make it a right click feature in the project browser.

Currently the only way I know to do this. Make a new 3d view, right click on view cube and orient to view. While this process works, it has its issues. For one, if you have a project with a large amount of views it take time scrolling through a long list of views to select. If you need to make a 3d view per level it will take long time.

Right click on the view and create 3d view would significantly decrease the time.

Graitec PowerPack (2017) for Revit has a certain command called "3D View for each level". It automatically creates a 3D view for each and every level. Every tool already available in third-party extensions is not a high priority for Autodesk. I believe Autodesk is more focused on tools currently unavailable elsewhere (like steel connections and steel shop drawings).

P.S. You can also create a Dynamo script to automate this 3D Views task. Or search on Dynamo sites for it (http://dynamonodes.com/ ; https://dynamonow.com/category/dynamo/dynamo-scripts/ ; etc)

I understand there may be third party add-ins that will take care of ideas people post. That should not stop us from posting ideas. The purpose of this site is to give Autodesk ideas that there users are looking for in there software.

I have multiple free and purchased add-ins I use. I may even look into the tool you mentioned. And thank you for mentioning it. But I still feel it is a tool that Autodesk should just include. if the idea gets enough votes they might.

@Anonymous: I totally understand you. I myself (and many others) have been asking Autodesk for a Rebar Shape Detailing command for years. And that's the kind of answer i've got: such command is already available in third-party extensions and we, Autodesk, don't bother to (at least) acknowledge such "minor" issues. The same goes for : total area of  concrete formwork, spacer rebar types, batch plot to pdf, custom color-based filters for rebars, a "non-printable" parameter, steel shop drawings, and many others.

I pretty sure the MEP engineers have a list of issues of their own.
