Export to IFC with Reinforcement Rounding

Export to IFC with Reinforcement Rounding

In the Northern of Europe OpenBIM IFC is widely used. In alot of project, in fact, IFC delivery has now replaced 2D drawings and Revit-schedule-export. At the moment Revit IFC-export do not support Reinforcement rounding. The measurements in the IFC-parameters are always the exact, even when Reinforcement Rounding is turned on in Revit and the Schedules in Revit looks "perfect".

So please: include rounded values in the IFC export. See attached Powerpoint.

Every software does rebar rounding as a mathematical expression. It does not affect the 3D model. It would take too long to resize MANY rebars for 1 or 2 centimeters. It makes no sense to break the model precision for too little advantage. Rounding is a human factor. Rounding makes no sense for a machine, it make sense for humans only.

I am not asking for adjustment in the 3D-model. Only that the values in the Schedule in Revit is reflected in the IFC parameter value when exported. Look at the attached PowerPoint.

I am not trying to please myself nor the machine, only the HUMANS at the construction site that wonder why there is a difference in the Excel from Revit compared to the values in the IFC.

@magne.ganzI understand your dilemma. As an engineer i encountered the same problem myself. I'm not sure how a solution can be implemented in IFC. IFC is like pdf, if you accept such analogy. It is great for viewing "3D stuff" but it is really difficult to edit it in complex ways. I believe such "rounding" should be implemented in Revit, as a value ovverride (by rounding) and somehow imposed to the IFC file. Rebar Total Length Parameter Rounding override should be added as a distinct value for not breaking down the IFC original/precise values.
