Wishlist: I want to select a group of beams and then disallow beam joins for all of them at once. Or, before placing a beam, or beam system be able to pre-select disallow beam joins for all beams about to be placed.
Here is where I use this most: It took me several attempts to figure out how to add 3D metal siding to a structure (industrial process facility settings), but finally I stumbled on a method. I built a typical 36" wide sheet of metal siding as a beam (a line based extrusion), for which I can then create any siding profile/width I want. Next, I place a work-plane along the outside of a framing line and name it "____ Siding line". Then I go into an elevation of that side, set the work-plane to "____ Siding Line", and place a beam system of the 36" wide siding "beams" at 36" intervals and voila, I just covered the side of the structure with a series of accurately modeled 3D metal panels. I have only two problems with this method - The beam ends want to join with nearby beams, and I have to go back and cut the edges off - if the siding wall isn't rectangular.
Alternately, a 3D panel/siding/decking tool would be fantastic, and could be scheduled or taken all the way to fabrication level fairly easily. With the beam system approach I can almost schedule decking/siding now.
