Complex line types

Complex line types

In Revit the  lines types you can have is really pathetic compared to AutoCADs - dashes, dots and continious lines. (And the ofcourse the Insulation that has its own button to make, and the revision cloud if that counts...). Would be very helpful to be able to make various line types with shapes in 2d - like tracks, talus and I thing that was already suggested - with text in it. Out from deperation (again) we are using detail line family with text in it to display  ELEC, HYDRO, Xs (for fence), etc... but comes a curve and there the solution stops. We are also forced to do untinkable things to a surveyors drawings in order to preserve their line types in Revit.

It would be cool to create complex lines through a separate dialog window by graphical way as a pattern.

Transitioning to REVIT would be SO MUCH EASIER if AUTOCAD line types imported properly or if we could at least create custom line styles in REVIT with letters.

So many types of plans require line styles with text, like gas lines, overhead power lines, etc.

It is frustrating that the most widespread BIM software cannot natively create documentation to meet building code review in the US. It would be great if the industry standard were able to meet industry standards.

This takes the cake. Bravo.

In the EU it's the same. We need Complex line types to meet industry standard.

DIY: What do you think about this family we use with a shared parameter to create text based lines by our self.

@bjoern_teutriene Love it. (BTW, link is broken, but I see what you did there.)

What I really need is for my Civil engineer's dwg background to show correctly!

@pobrienFNE96 : Link should be working for everybody.

I do this to get by too.  I might have even found the recommendation earlier in this thread I think.  It's a good recommendation as a stop gap but far from what's really needed.  This is not some kind of new and/or advanced feature.  @NateBrush said it right.....

Line types in Revit should be cutomizable enough that can be modified with Texts or other True Type Fonts &/or symbols

This MUST be moved to the top of AUTODESK's list of To-Do's. Any AUTODESK reps here?? For something that is so simple and critical for our documentation needs as draftsman...can you please add this feature??

7 years since the first post in this thread!

Do Autodesk ever actually implement anything, or is the rent collected on Revit with almost nothing in the way of improvements between releases, simply too consistent now for the company to actually do anything?

The "Time Taken to Implement : Simplicity" ratio of this problem is approaching infinity as CAD standards around the world cry in pain as their seemingly useless existence continues to be ignored by the "industry leader".

@sasha.crotty This is currently the fourth highest voted idea. For now can you please just add "text" to the Line Pattern Property Type, and allow a text string in the Value with the same font options as everywhere else. Reinvent the wheel later (or more likely never) but for now just give us something

Agree with the Poster.
Rethink the whole line style manager. Everything we do is visual and more intuitive let's have this as a UI to create and edit.
Also, an option to not import CAD imported line styles - the programme just creates its own mess!?

Does anyone have an idea of how many votes on the Idea Board it takes before Autodesk will consider taking action or is this just a distraction for us all HOPING something will get done?

@kevin.allen3178 one billion votes and twenty years later🤣😋😞
