Complex line types

In Revit the  lines types you can have is really pathetic compared to AutoCADs - dashes, dots and continious lines. (And the ofcourse the Insulation that has its own button to make, and the revision cloud if that counts...). Would be very helpful to be able to make various line types with shapes in 2d - like tracks, talus and I thing that was already suggested - with text in it. Out from deperation (again) we are using detail line family with text in it to display  ELEC, HYDRO, Xs (for fence), etc... but comes a curve and there the solution stops. We are also forced to do untinkable things to a surveyors drawings in order to preserve their line types in Revit.

Please prioritize this. Having to link civil drawings and find workarounds for linetypes is a problem on every project. It's been a problem for a decade of my career. Adding complex line types and allowing Revit to import them from AutoCAD is a foundational need for designers to communicate clearly. Please help us do a better job.

Hi, @yavork,

We are in the process of trying to consolidate and re-organize the Revit Ideas. Part of this is going to be eliminating the "Under Review" category. We want to make it easier for both our product teams and our users to find Ideas. Rest assured that our teams are truly paying attention to the Ideas here, and all of the Ideas are truly "under review" at all times. Hope that helps!

But we see all ideas going to Under Review and stay there too long. This is bad for user sentiment.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones this is another post that proves my point of lots of vote and activity from the user base, but nothing from Autodesk. As you mention, there has been some new effort to address this from Autodesk and I am holding onto hope. But as I came across this topic today and saw it fell into that same category, and you had commented on it, I figured I should give you a cross Idea shout-out. NFPA 170 requires firewalls to appear with specific symbols (diamonds and "S") as such this is a mandatory requirement on many commercial construction projects. @kimberly_fuhrman-jones think you could ratchet up the pressure on this issue please?

@RobertAGlover  The title of Revit Fairy Godmother has not been issued to me (yet!), however I will certainly pass along your sentiments to the team. As mentioned previously, there is an entire complexity to the decision-making process, much of which I am still learning. Votes matter, certainly, but are only part of the determining process. Please know that I am committed to helping facilitate communication between the Ideas and the product teams, and that I do review each new Idea that comes in, as well as working through the rest of the (8000+!) Ideas. It's a long uphill process, but I hope that it will be better in the long run!

Well if the title of Revit Fairy Godmother ever comes up for grabs, I'll be sure to recommend you. 🙂 I know it's a big ask, and I don't think anyone envies your job. Please understand that I'm not upset with you, or even really at Autodesk. I just know that sometimes it takes being an extra squeaky wheel in order to get some grease.

Make it possible to create Line Patterns with Text (like in AutoCAD). 

For example:

---Gas---Gas---Gas---

or:

---X---X---X--- (for Demolition)

There is a workaround to create those Lines with a Repeating Detail. But it would be great to have it as a Line Pattern, so you can create Pipes (for example) with Text in your Plans.
