Central file shortcut that create a local copy of a central file

Central file shortcut that create a local copy of a central file

Shortcut to a central file on the Recent Files screen should create a local copy of a central file on click. Right click - open central file directly.

Ability to create such shortcut on Recent Files screen.

I had a similar idea a while ago, but it never went anywhere, and has been archived.

Basically, I want "regular" Revit to work just like Revit Server or C4R, where you are never aware that there IS a "Local Copy"

Yes, similar, but a bit complicated. I think the shortcut idea is easier to implement.

Proposed workflow:

  • Central file (CF) created.
  • User opened the CF once - the shortcut to CF was created.
  • User will create new local by clicking on that shortcut.

The shortcuts should be sorted by type on start screen - recent ones at the bottom and CF at the top.

Now we have to hide the recent files start screen and create bunch of places in open dialog - not a big deal but

why not create more useful and "smart" start screen?

I'm happy to announce that Revit 2019.1 makes a significant change in this behavior with the new Revit HomeCheck it out and let us know what you think!

Hi @sasha.crotty  - I think  this Previous discussion organizing local files  Was leaning towards this...

What if we could substitute or add predefined substitutions based on the data in the central files (or 360?)

I like Ron Allen's idea!

I posted about this some while ago, but it got archived. I reaaly don't understand why, because now my Documents folder has been a mess ever since I've started to use Revit.
