Bolt assembly through column

Resulting the discussion in this topic, I want to make an inquiry here.

At the moment, a bolt assembly can span a max. distance of 1/2" or around 1.25mm:

• There is a 1/2" default distance between the connected pieces, over which the screws do not catch the entire bundle of parts. This distances cannot be changed.

This makes it impossible for a bolt assembly to go through the whole of a column of let's say 160mm, like this for instance:

If this distance could be increased or altered in any way, it could be possible.
