Assign the point of view of a 3d view to another.

Assign the point of view of a 3d view to another.

Hello all from Spain.

Now, if you want several 3d views with the same orientation, you have to duplicate them (note that its not possible duplicate a 3d vies as dependent).

As every change in the point of view or orientation of a 3d view is only done in it, then is necessary to re-duplicate all the views.

It would be useful a tool to assign an orientation or point of view from a 3d View to other ones.

An alternative to this could be the ability to do dependent 3d views, but I suppose that this would be not so good.

Regards.

I do see the benefit to having something akin to coordinates that you could copy/paste between 3d views so different styles of 3d views could have the same orientation (such as a view showing only structure, and one showing the finished building)

However, I still think that 3d views should be able to be duplicated as dependents, per this idea.

This can already be accomplished, Right Click on the View Cube and select orient to view 3D and select the appropriate view.  One thing to not if there is a section box in either of the views it will adjust it to match.

I still condsider this an important missing feature, as orient to 3D-view only manages to align the camera position, but not the field of view, so you end up with the new view not looking like the one you intended to replicate at all.

(We do a lot of our presentation-graphics in photoshop, where we link different revit exports as smartobjects, similar to renderpasses in composoting - hidden line, ambient shadows only, hard shadows only, masks for different parts/elements - as it gives us much more control over the final image, alas, if the perspective needs to change, we have to duplicate the new perspective for all different "passes", as we can't match the old ones exactly to the new view. it is manageable with view-templates, but still would be much quicker and easier, if one could just really match the views)

To assign perspective from the existing to a new 3D view:

  1. Open target view and right click on the 3D cube on the top right corner
  2. Browse to this section as the image:

  3. Point to "3D Views" and find the existing view name that you want to apply for this current view
